If you needed more confirmation that entrenched, nine-term incumbent Earl Pomeroy is in a lot of trouble in the upcoming election year (after ignoring his constituents and casting a vote for an unpopular health care bill this last year, among other things) I have the line on some private polling that shows Pomeroy floundering even against an unnamed opponent.
I cant name the source of this poll, so I know youll all take it with a grain of salt, but right now Rep. Pomeroy is losing 50 - 42 to other in the polling I saw.
More people are realizing the Democrats are also The Party of Islam.
Perhaps, ND can finally have some GOP representation on the federal level. If only Hoeven enters the Senate race.
Chuckle, chuckle ... The payback is a bitch.
It time to sent these liberal crook packing.
It is good news. Especially since the Republican Party only has ‘other’ as the next potential Presidential candidate.
Unnamed candidate is fine, but we have to run a candidate with a name, and that doesn’t necessarily mean we win. ND Republicans have dropped the ball a LONG time allowing Democrats to get away with winning these seats virtually unchallenged for 3 decades. We certainly haven’t lacked for first-tier candidates that have held statewide office who could’ve run.
It is frustrating that too many Dem Senators occupancy GOP leaning states. We shouldn’t be just targeting Ben Nelson. We should be holding the feets of Stephine Heresth, Bayh, Lincoln to the fire in 2010. Then in 2012, go gunning after Casey, Webb, McCaskill, Webb, and Bingham.
Too often, we let vulnerable Dems distance themselves from the national party line by allowing to use the “I’m bipartisan and independent line.”
Congress I assume... What state?
Well, Herseth-Sandlin is in trouble. We’ve got a first tier opponent in Sec of State Chris Nelson, and polling data indicated it was very competitive. I still can’t believe Mike Rounds gave Tim Johnson a pass in ‘08, he was very vulnerable, especially over his health. Johnson had no business running for reelection, period. I thought I read that Mike Pence might challenge Bayh. We have a decent enough challenger in ex-Congressman John Hostettler, but Pence would be far stronger.
North Dakota
Hostettler may be the strongest challenger Byah received in years, but he’s not a 1st tier foe. Hostettler lost his Congressional district badly in 2006. Even in good GOP years, it was a struggle for Hostettler to hold on to a district that went strongly for Bush in 2000 & 2004.
Depending upon how much money he can raise, he’s either an above average second tier challenger or below average first tier. At least he’s stepping forward, otherwise we would’ve only had a low-end State legislator to serve as a sacrificial lamb.
Thanks to Yongin for the ping.
This is astonishing news. We do need a name candidate, just the same, but the tide has turned in our favor.
The only explanation that I can think of is that a lot of North Dakota Republicans love their home towns so much, they can’t stand the idea of living in DC.
That, or the rodent troika has copies of the FBI files on every viable Republican in the state.
That’s an interesting point. In another article in this site, there is speculation in ND that Earl Pomeroy may retire this year.
Yeah, that was from a few weeks ago when it looked like a potential rash of Democrats might retire, but I think the party is leaning hard on a lot of them to hold firm, Pomeroy certainly among them. One person commented that Pomeroy might like to run for Governor, but I think he’d be at a decided disadvantage doing that. It’s pretty clear the GOP is the overwhelming preference of the state to control state government.
I agree with you. Nobody wants to take risks.
