Today is my 11th anniversary of signing up on FreeRepublic. I lurked since the beginning of October, 1998, learned about the March for Justice, and travelled to DC from NJ to attend it to join the voices of those calling for the impeachment of a President who had broken the law. How thrilling it was to arrive at the Washington Monument on Oct. 31, 1998 to see a sea of flags and 4,000 patriots! Seven weeks later, President Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives.
Since that time, Freepers have been instrumental in influencing the 2000(Sore/Loserman and "Get out of Cheney's house!) and 2004 elections(exposing Dan Rather's "fake but accurate" Texas ANG memo and helping the SwiftBoat Vets), in shutting down amnesty not once, but twice in 2006, and in pulling the GOP kicking and screaming to the right as an outcome of the disastrous 2008 election of the Usurper-in-Chief.
All that time, FreeRepublic has been my refuge to find common sense and camaderie in the political battles of these 11 years. Having a place where like-minded America-loving patriots can gather has proven invaluable.
The year 2010 will be a watershed in the history of America. The Constitution and the rule of law are at risk, not unlike as in 1998 when I first came to FreeRepublic. We have but ten more full months to influence, peacefully, the course of our country, through the candidates we support and the causes we work for.
I wish you all a Happy New Year, and express my hope that there will be a new birth of freedom for America in 2010. Together, we can make that happen. God bless us, every one.
Class of ‘98 member reporting for duty! Happy New Year to you as well.
r9,don’t you just hate newbie vanities like this? Shameless, actually.
Happy New Year to you!
How did you come by your screen name?
Thank you, mware! And may you have many more anniversaries here!
Happy New Year to you!
Thanks, my FRiend. It's just the truth.
Happy New Year to you!
Named after the way I used to address printer outputs from the centralized mainframe printer where I used to work.
You are so not like your screen name!
Good to see you here,a nd to find that you are a Class of ‘98 as well.
Happy New Year to you!
Wasn't hard back then ... there were about 27 websites to wade through. ;^)
Thanks—I always wondered about that.
I thought maybe it was your CIA code number! ;)
Got it! 10-4!
And Happy New Year to you!
Nobody can say it isn't.... ;-)
Watched that on the morning they snatched that poor little boy. Called my brother in a rage.
He said, "why don't we mosey on down to the White House and see who is there."
That started the whole thing for me.
FR is such a blessing.
Thanks, JimRob!
Jolly good thread you’ve got going. Nice to make your acquaintance. Thanks for the meaning/history on exit82. I live off of Interstate 55 in central IL, and the nearest exits (now committed to memory) are 123, 126 & 133. FWIW: Chicago is in the exit 240 range, and the exit for St. Louis is exit 20. Keep your powder dry. ;o)
And, we must not forget dear quidam.
mombonn, you’re Class of ‘98? How cool is that?!
I remember wishing I could go to the House Manager’s Dinner. You’re right—FR is such a blessing. I could not have survived Clinton’s 2nd term without it.
Happy New Year to you!
Yes, your brother can stir up the action. He’s a good egg.
I pray that Elian will return to the US as a free man someday. His mom would have been happy to see that.
As long as you're revolting against the Dems, more power to you!
Or Eschoir.
Or Deep in the Hurtgen Forest.
Are we old or WHAT?!!
My daughter lived in Chicago for a few years and went to college there. Have been to Flora, IL—good folks there—mostly corn farmers.
Glad you enjoy the thread. Sometimes we need an Obama-free zone, you know?
