The failed Christmas day terrorist attack on Northwest Flight 253 has focused much attention on Yemen. In an interview with Fox News Sunday, Sen Joe Lieberman warned that Yemen is likely to become the site of the next American war unless the government takes preventive measures to stop the spread of al-Qaeda. According to Lieberman, a government official in the Yemeni capital of Sana'a told him, "Iraq was yesterday's war, Afghanistan is today's war. If we don't act preemptively, Yemen will be tomorrow's war."
We have since found out that the Fort Hood shooting as well as the Christmas day attack were both linked to Yemen-based radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki.
These attacks have mobilized opposition to repatriating Yemeni Guantánamo prisoners and could delay plans to close the prison. Lieberman, joined by sometimes Democrat Arlen Specter, and Republicans McCain and Graham, have requested that the the Obama administration should not release the 90 Yemeni prisoners currently held at Guantánamo Bay.
Perhaps the biggest blow to President Obama's plans came tonight as the Democratic Party Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee and Obama ally Senator Feinstein warned the POTUS not to transfer any more Gitmo detainees to Yemen:

“Democratic Senator Feinstein to Obama-No More Gitmo to Yemen Transfers”
Geez, why not Di? Haven’t they killed enough of us yet? Make sure this pig we have is well lawyered up, too, willya?
I have a better idea. Keep them in GITMO. They are less trouble there.
Genius. Sheer genius. Where do we find these luminaries, these beacons of intellectual radiance?
RATs scurrying to cover their ass? Too late, they’re TOAST for over 100 different reasons come 2010 and 2012. First reason is treason.
Di Fi......
Too late...
You lose.
Statement of Senator Feinstein In Support of Amendment to Close the Detention Facility at Guantanamo Bay
Floor of the United States Senate
Monday, July 16, 2007
-snip-
Senator Specter and Senator Leahy have introduced a bill to restore habeas rights to Guantanamo detainees. I hope that bill is allowed to be presented as an amendment to this bill. It is timely, it is important, and the world is watching. It should happen, and finally, it is the right thing to do.
So what have been all the consequences of this? The detention center at Guantanamo Bay has become a lightning rod for international condemnation. It draws sharp criticism from our allies and hands our enemies a potent recruiting tool. It weakens our standing in the world and makes the world a more dangerous place for our troops, who may be captured on foreign battlefields in the future.
Yet the administration fails to act, despite public comments from President Bush and top advisers that the facility should be closed. Recent news reports say there is renewed debate inside the White House over closing Guantanamo, but still nothing happens. So I believe it is up to Congress to act.
-snip-
The world has looked at Guantanamo and made the judgment that it is wrong. I think it is time for the Senate to do something about it. The Senate has borne the burden of Guantanamo for too long. The time has come to close it down. I appeal to the other side to allow the debate on the floor and to give us a unanimous consent time agreement so that there might be a vote in this body.
Diane Feinstein
Ivy League?
Fast forward 5-10 years, change “Guantanamo” to “Thomson”, same argument. He’s not closing GitMo, he’s just moving it into the heartland of American.
Brilliant, Barry, just freaking brilliant.
In 5-10 years even idiots like Di Fi will see that.
Just curious - Is her concern security-based or PR-based?
BUT,
But.
but;
they were release to Saudi Arabia.
When the Saudi’s declared them FIXED, the went on to Yemen.
That's a rhetorical question right?
Yeppers!
Senators Boxer and Feinstein, two bimbos who operate out of Californis and we know how well that state is doing.
It took a near catastrophe for one dim dem to think about this.
These people have to go.
