In Health Care Battle, Coburn Offers Prayer for Byrd's Timely Demise?

n the wee hours of the morning, the U.S. Senate gathered to vote on cloture, the first of three motions, for the health care reform bill in order to move the process on to the next step. With all 60 Democratic caucus members finally aligned against the Republican filibuster, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) resorted to more sinister implications in his afternoon floor speech: “What the American people ought to pray is that somebody can’t make the vote tonight. That’s what they ought to pray.”

The statement seemed to be a thinly veiled jab at ailing Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) who, at 92, chastised his Republican colleagues for forcing him to come in for a vote at 1 a.m. this past Friday. As he was wheeled into the chamber, he rebutted the applause with a cadence of “shame, shame.” At least three members of the GOP caucus were slated to vote for cloture on that Pentagon budget bill, but their leadership snapped them back in line in order to force the Dems' hand and Byrd's appearance.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) interrupted Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) to fire back at Coburn this morning: “This statement troubles me, and I’m trying to reach him come back to the floor and explain exactly what he meant about a senator being unable to make the vote tonight.”

Durbin went on, "This statement goes too far. We are becoming more coarse and divided here... When it reaches a point where we're praying, asking people to pray, that senators wouldn't be able to answer the roll call, I think it has crossed the line."

I wish a comet would hit DC and wipe them all out. It would be the best thing to happen to this country in a long time.

No Dick...a line hasn’t been crossed until Americans start insuring that communist legislators don’t show up for votes!

I wish about 10 million people would surround the capitol while all are in attendance and demand their resignations “or else”.

Senator Turbin knows EXACTLY what he meant... he was hoping Turbin wouldn’t make it to vote on this OBAMAnation.

Perhaps Iran will test their nuclear weapon on DC. While Congress is in session, of course.

“When it reaches a point where we’re praying, asking people to pray, that senators wouldn’t be able to answer the roll call, I think it has crossed the line.”

When it reaches a point where half of the people and their representatives think it is perfectly acceptable to curb freedom for “safety” and “health” (in disquise), I think it has crossed the line. Like that line at the Alamo.

Reminds me of that Tom Clancy novel in which the Japanese airline pilot flies a 767 into the Capital during a plenary session. Wipes out Congress. They all get replaced by real honest American citizens instead of a bunch of sleazy lawyers and such-- much to the advantage of the nation.

I read that one. I think that Clancy was trying to give some terrorists some ideas.

I think Senator KKK Byrd is already dead. The Dims just keep wheeling him in for the vote. It’s kind of like that movie “Weekend at Bernies”, except not as funny.

You know what's amazing? The 16th Amendment was passed during the holiday season as well.

Every single treasonous piece of sh*t that is voting for this completely unconstitutional bill ought to be removed from office and tried as a traitor and dealt with.

I can't believe this is happening. This is the largest government power grab since FDR's raw new deal.

FDR transformed us from a representative constitutional republic to a legislative democracy.

Obamarx and his treasonous minions are now changing us into a total socialist third world sh*t hole.
And the dumb down sheeple rejoice and love their slavery.
