President Obama Grades Self: "A Good, Solid B-plus"

On her Christmas in Washington special on ABC last night, Oprah Winfrey asked President Obama to grade himself.

"Good, solid B-plus," the president said.

Explaining, he said, "we have inherited the biggest set of challenges of any president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

"We stabilized the economy, and prevented possibilities of a Great Depression or a significant financial meltdown. The economy is growing again.

"We are on our way out of Iraq. I think we've got the best possible plan for Afghanistan.

"We have reset our image around the world.

"We have achieved an international consensus around the need for Iran and North Korea to disable their nuclear weapons.

"And I think that we're going to pass the most significant piece of social legislation since Social Security,and that's health insurance for every American," he concluded.

Pressed by Oprah as to why only a B-plus, the president said, "B-plus because of the things that are undone. Health care is not yet signed. If I get health care passed we tip into A-minus."

What grade would you give him and why?

This is a tough question to answer, in fact it's a trap. Give yourself a C or lower and you are admitting mediocrity or incompetence, a B or higher and you are bragging about how wonderful you are. Of course, since Obama is arrogant, he felt he would cleverly answer just "B+" and seem modest, or so he expected.

A smart person would say something like "Well, Oprah, that's a tough question. We set a pretty aggressive agenda and I think we've made some strong progress but we've still got a lot to do. In the end, the American people will decide what grade I get and I hope that when they do, it will be a good one."

Of all the companies I had the pleasure to lead and in coaching my kids, I always told them that "self praise is no praise". Guess they don't teach these sort of lessons in Kenya. What a narcissistic a**hole this guy is.

I make the same point to my children (and to my husband, when I get distracted and don’t realize it’s he bragging, not one of the boys).

Maybe it’s a form of autism, not realizing how *tacky* his smug self-satisfaction is, especially under the circumstances.

In a recent conversation with the dean of a graduate school, he remarked about a man who’ been in his class and received a B+: He wasn’t a very good student.

Some people have high standards. This White House clown clearly doesn’t.
