Dominant Media Fails In Its Duty To Report On IL' DCFS: Horror Stories Abound

A little over a year ago, I wrote a column regarding the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services' (DCFS) supposed confidential hotline. The DCFS hotline itself was a means by which Illinois citizens could report cases of child abuse and/or neglect. I had a personal experience regarding the use of the confidential hotline which was disturbing, to say the least.

I was aware of a family who lived near me in which children were exposed to an unhealthy environment according to anyone's standards. During a visit to the home, three children (all under the age of ten) were found to be living in filthy conditions. There was animal excrement on the floors and ...

This would make kids living on a farm per se abused.

This woman may be describing genuine cases of abuse. But that fact she sees so many of them also supports the theory that she is a buttinski. This is a hard set of interests to balance.

I totally disagree with this woman.

If you don’t care enough to make yourself known then you don’t really care very much. If you see a little kid playing in the street won’t you go grab the child and take him home?

If anyone can report a case without revealing their name then you get all kinds of abuse in the making of complaints.

The family has rights too. Perhaps I have different values than some. If my values say a child is in trouble then I should be glad to make my views known to the family and if that doesn’t help the child then DCFS.

To me if a person isn’t willing to make himself know as the complainer then it must not be a serious complaint.
