I have been a minor participant at Free Republic, the Internets leading conservative forum, since September 2004. An online friend referred me to a discussion where members of Free Republic were talking about the 1952 and 1956 presidential elections, and using my maps from this page to make a point. I had to join FR to introduce myself to that group, and thank them for visiting. Because that was right after the Rathergate scandal, I thus became one of the Pajamahadeen that had just brought down the Sauronic eye of CBS.
Being a Freeper has been an interesting and fun experience, but I am disturbed by a current trend on those boards. For the past few weeks, at least since the latest fundraising drive ended, I have noticed that every new thread begins with a picture or video reminding us that Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate, supports abortion. It doesnt matter what the topic is, the anti-Mitt material pops up.
Personally, I think our current priorities ought to be making sure President Obama and his leftist pals dont force their health care plan down our throats, and defeating as many moonbats as possible in next years congressional and gubernatorial elections, especially Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Slobbering Barney Frank. Then in 2011 or 2012 we can fight over who we want for the presidency. Consequently, yesterday I posted the following on the Kentucky board:
Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the Mitt Romney bashing that goes on at the beginning of each new thread? Granted, he may not be conservative enough for most of us (my first choice for 2012 would probably be Sarah Palin or Duncan Hunter), but he just HAS to be better than the Chicago mob that rules Washington now. Somebody ought to tell Jim Robinson that BHO and his cabal are the real enemy, not Mitt. Sheesh, an outside observer looking at us now is probably getting the impression that Republicans eat their own. And as for Mitt Romney being a Mormon, well, Im more concerned about Harry Reids Mormon faith. Does he HAVE any?
Four replies have appeared since then, and only one agrees with me. The others just said we ought to do whatever we can to make Mitt Romney unelectable. I guess Im going to take a timeout from Free Republic. Hopefully the Freepers will be acting more sensibly when I return. Bye, see you guys next year.
Jim, I am not suggesting otherwise. However, shouldn’t we focus on 2010 first? I worry we’re losing our focus is all.
LOL! LOTS of people like you, Kim...!! :) :)
Apparently, you are one of those who are ignoring the Tea Parties.
Just vote them out in 2010 is our theme song!
Dang missed it, what was it about?
Wait, wait, wait...
OK, let me clarify my point here. I’m not that big a fan of Mitt but I don’t think he’s the Devil Incarnate either. I just think it’s a bit premature to run ads at the top of every FR thread against him...why not have it about 2010, or anti-Obamacare, etc?
Sure, we should always discuss potential candidates, good and bad, but the focus should be, for now, defeating Obamacare and Cap and Tax, and presenting a UNITED FRONT against the Left.
For what it’s worth, I’m FAR from a RINO, a quick look at my posts (prior to today) can tell you that.
I’m NOT saying “nominate the RINO who can WIN” but nominate the CONSERVATIVE who can.
Example...Duncan Hunter. A FINE man, but there was absolutely no way in hell he could win...so it would all have been for naught. Not because he was too conservative, but because he couldn’t communicate with enough independent voters.
McCain was NOT the “conservative who could win” - turns out he wasn’t even the RINO who could. If absolutely nobody could beat the Dem, fine, nominate the best conservative to make a statement...but if there’s someone out there who has Reaganesque politics AND a Reaganesque ability to win over voters, that’s who you nominate. Ronald Reagan was conservative and could convince voters that they were, too. More people are conservative in this country than liberal. It’s up to us to find the acceptable candidate who can win over those conservative voters who usually vote Democrat, because of misinformation, bad habits, and even, yes, stupidity...
We are free to disagree who that person is. But right now, shouldn’t we be working on defeating Obamacare, and finding conservative AND electable 2010 candidates for the Senate and House?
Not at all, but 2010 isn’t won yet!!!!
Ignoring them? I would have been there had our infant son not been sick that day.
That won't happen with Rinos. The focus should be putting government on notice AND the RNC that we have had ENOUGH!
The the Republican Party platform and tell me how many believe and support it.
The above should say "Read the Republican Party platform and tell me how many believe and support it."
Isn’t this approach what got us here to begin with? Conservatives for decades have been “settling” for someone who is a lib in elephant clothing. Whoever the party selects is better than anything the democRats put out.
The long term effect of this is the party drifts farther left with every election. If the party base bites their tongue every two years, why in the world would the party elites change their ways?
Finally, we end up with a party that is barely distinguishable from the democRat party. And believe it or not, democRats are better at being democRats than Republicans are.
When we are a party that is pretty much the same as the democRats, just not quite as good at it as they, then why would voters be attracted to the party? Why would voters STAY with the party?
In the last election, the democRats placed a bunch of somewhat conservative candidates up against Republican liberals. They out-flanked us!!!! Our party had drifted so far to the left they were able to supply some moderates who were to the right of our candidates.
The short-sightedness of supporting any Republican is killing the cause. And the party.
It's called the Bug Zapper Thread for a reason. The "RINO supporters" were drawn into an argument, ganged up on, and banned when they got frustrated.
It’s a lot easier for somebody to prove the unjustified bannings happened if they actually did, than for me to prove it never happened.

Why not just ask the boss and end the confusion ?
I agree... I remember it well. It was despicable.
Opus?
Those people I am battling on other forums are liberals. The more ammo I can get from FreeRepublic to battle the liberals right now the better.
Full disclosure, I voted for Romney in my State Primary. Why? My freakin choice was between him and McCain. I had to hold my nose in the primary to vote for Romney and then really hold my nose to vote for McCain.
Scratch that. I voted for Palin.
More ammo against liberals and RINOS. More ammo for CONSERVATIVES. Videos are especially helpful. People don't read links I post too much.
“See Arnold Schwarzenegger, most hated governor in the country.”
Now, now Jim! I live in NY State and I beg to differ with that statement!
“It’s called the Bug Zapper Thread for a reason. The “RINO supporters” were drawn into an argument, ganged up on, and banned when they got frustrated”
Uh...No.
They ran into the light of the Bug Zapper, zappers don’t move. They did it with glee and zeal and ran over to their anti FR site and bragged about getting zapped.
They made a distinct decision to go and they were proud of it.

By the time the thread got to it's conclusion, several FReepers had chosen to get themselves banned in a show of solidarity, but it didn't start that way. Bug Zappers are meant to lure and eliminate, and that's exactly what the thread did.
She didn’t screw up interviews - there was only one interview in which she was irritated, of which was also edited to make her look bad. She is not a dunce and she doesn’t look like one.
You aren’t going to get more support for Romney if you keep dragging Sarah’s name in the mud. You should be able to defend him without trashing anyone else. It says volumes about Romney and his supporters if you can’t even defend his positions and record without trashing someone else.
