Wal Mart does it again. The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled in favor of the chain store. In 2005, the store in Jonquiree, Quebec was closed because of the recent union certification of the stores employees. This, of course, led to various court runs by the displaced employees of the store. At the end of 2005, the Quebec Labor Board ordered Wal Mart to compensate the former employees. (http://wakeupwalmart.com/facts/) Friday, the Supreme Court of Canada has seen fit to rule 4-3 in favor of the company. As usual

What I have seen is Walmart Regional managers who turn a blind eye to mismanagement by district and store managers because of their PC status until it becomes so egregious that it threatens their job. I have seen company theft, misuse of company car and cc card, “alternative lifestyle” coercion, and the regular kind. And don't think they don't hold a grudge either. The ill-qualified and enchrenched upper management will blacklist you if you cause them any heartache. They also have a competitive shopping program designed to sell items below cost to destroy local business. Then all you have left is chinese junk, minimum wage jobs and substandard customer service.

By the way, I don’t support the union ideal, I just wanted people to realize there are other opinions than “walmart is the greatest!”

And for anyone's desire to know, I have 2 disabled children. The one that killed the insurance had 3 open heart surgeries in his first year and spent 2 months in NICU. If it wasn't for the union there, I would have lost my job for taking time off to be with him.

Depends on where you work and how much they value your work. I would have no problem taking that kind of time if I needed it, but would also be asked to work a flex schedule and do some work at home. Sometimes people are unlucky and need to take the time off, but that privilege needs to be earned not handed out by a union.

Employees are part of the company and should be treated with respect.

They need to earn respect.

You people seem to care more about the prosperity of a global corporation than the lives of children.

Ah yes, there's the "you people" label. How about corporations that deliver food? Corporations that make food more affordable? Corporations that help those other corporations be more efficient? Surely they are not all evil.

The claim:
In Marion a few years back, 3M told the employees to take a union vote. Then gave them a 3 day break. When the workers got back, the doors were locked and the equipment was gone. This is the type of business behavior I am against.
Mr. K says not true.

Any other opinions? Anyone in Marion?

I do NOT admire Walmart.
An overwhelming amount of the crap they sell comes from Red China.
RED COMMIE CHINA!
I don’t need their cheap crap. Our country does not need the trading deficit that Walmart facilitates. I am willing to pay more to shop some place else.
I am wearing my flameproof jammies. Bring it on.
