17-year-old Kevin Anderson wanted to add another Eagle Scout badge to his well-earned collection and so spent some 200 hours over several weeks to clear a walking path along the river in east Allentown park in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Little did young Mr. Anderson know it but he was about to prove once again that unions have a pernicious influence on governments everywhere. After Kevin's good deed the city's public employees union went gunning for the poor kid with threats and gyrations meant to shake down the city and scare off any citizen that might dare to imagine that they could perform any act of charity or community service for their fellows without the union getting its piece of the action.
In his best Sopranos impression, the thug president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Nicky Balzano began to issue his threats.
"We'll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails," Balzano ominously warned the City Council.

Unions are nothing but modern day slavery.

Farther down the article:
"We are probably going to let this one go," Balzano said .
So, they probably will NOT go after the Scout.

That's because the damage has already been done.
Theres to be no volunteers, Balzano threatened.
Didn't Obama, the Great One, say we are all supposed to volunteer in our communities?

One of these days a union thug is going to confront a legally armed citizen, and union thug will be wearing a .45 sized hole.

After this story if I were a government official I would lay off every single SEIU employee and invite conservation, scouting and religious groups do this work for recognition.
To: tgusa
the SEIU aka Purple People Beaters were trying that kind of trash at the various townhall meetings , the union goons stopped being physically violent when folks started showing up with pistols on their belts. They realized that 5 union guys beating on a 65+year old retiree is one thing, getting shot for it is something else entirely.

The old 1966 movie, The Sand Pebbles, portrayed a coolie system of labor in colonial China where things quit working efficiently because maintaining the system was more important then the job being done. The scout was breaking their rice bowl.
To: Nebr FAL owner
You bet! The SEIU thugs became quiet real quick when Mr. .357 Magnum started showing up.

I do and it is especially effective when the gun is good sized and extra-ammo is carried. A full sized Mr. Glock Model 17,22,20 or 21 with two extra magazines does nice. As does Mr. S&W M27, M686 or Mr. Ruger GP100 in the 4” barreled variety. Scares the hell out of all thugs.

SEIU, a community service organization that was upset because they couldn’t make a profit off of community service? Not surprising.

In my office a man “union worker” was taking a long display board out of the building and was having a difficult time negotiating a corner. Seeing this I picked up the trailing edge corner for him and he was on his way. All of a sudden a Shop Steward came out of his cubicle and yelled “Hey, what the Hell do you think you're doing?” followed by “Hey! I'm talking to you”, when I ignored him.
3-years later he still gives me the stink eye when we pass in the hall.
