...Inevitably, the historical significance of the prize will be discussed. There will be references to the award being the first time a sitting US president has received the prize. Likewise, the references to past award winner such as Arafat, Vietnamese diplomat Lo Duc and Gorbachev will be invoked. You will hear the discussion about past nominees such as Neville Chamberlain, Hitler, Stalin and others. In the end we will be barraged with discussions centering upon the past, with little discussion as to the unintended affect of receiving the award.

The world is ruled by largely egotistical, alpha males who do not react well to criticism and react even more negatively to arrogance or condescension by other leaders. No example typifies this better than how global leadership reacted to ...

If he truly had America’s interest at heart he would tell the committee thanks but he can’t accept the award and promptly order the 40,000 more troops that the General requested to Afghanistan.

The Nobel Poopy Prize for the one who is full of it. The historical significance that will be discussed in future musings will be whether or not it will be possible to top this idiocy. This trumps Carter and Arafat.

I think world leaders desipise the President as much as they despise any U.S. President. I think they feared Reagan, Bush I and II, and maybe even Clinton. They don’t fear Obama.

er Theodore Roosevelt 1906, and he had to negotiate the end of the Russo-Japanese War to get it.

I knew the Nobel Peace Prize was nothing more than a paper weight when they gave it to Al Gore instead of Irena Sendler.

Irena Sendlerowa - Courage and valor
Irena Sendler, born in 1910, was raised by her Catholic parents to respect and love people regardless of their ethnicity or social status. Her father, a physician, died from typhus that he contracted during an epidemic in 1917.

He was the only doctor in his town near Warsaw who would treat the poor, mostly Jewish victims of this tragic disease. As he was dying, he told 7-year-old Irena, “If you see someone drowning you must try to rescue them, even if you cannot swim.”

In 1939 the Nazis swept through Poland and imprisoned the Jews in ghettos where they were first starved to death and then systematically murdered in killing camps.

Irena, by than a social worker in Warsaw, saw the Jewish people drowning and resolved to do what she could to rescue as many as possible, especially the children.

Working with a network of other social workers and brave Poles, mostly women, she smuggled 2,500 children out of the Warsaw ghetto and hid them safely until the end of the war.

The prize doesn’t always go to the most deserving!!!

Could someone please post the picture of Irena Sendler on this thread?

Neville Chamberlain’s half-brother Austen actually won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1925 for his work in producing the Locarno Pact which promised peace in Western Europe. Sadly, the combined efforts of Adolf Hitler and brother Neville later undid Austen’s work.

Best post of morning....how could they say he did anything when he had only been in office for a few weeks when nominations closed—not that he did anything since, but none of it makes any logical sense.
