you said: “the compound in those compact fluorescent bulbs vaporizes instantly when broken which and can enter nasal passages causing liver and kidney damage”

You are absolutely and categorically wrong.

There is no “compound” any different in long tube versus CFBs.

They both contain the element Mercury, in its metallic form adhered to the phosphors coated on the interior of the bulb.

Big difference is the CFBs have much lower levels of mercury .

You are citing a biased source which does not know the physics or technology behind florescent or CFBs.

My source: I personally design, build service and maintain mercury remediation equipment (mercury retorts) for the industry and have done so going on 12 years.

Thanks for the inside scoop.
One of the nice things about FR is the ability to learn from experts.
Since growing up in Cleveland in the 1950s, breathing the air and drinking the water, didn’t do me in, I’m not too worried about light bulbs.

I have often wondered about the electrical fields emitting from fluorescent bulbs/fixture....I suspect there are high electrostatic fields, from my observations of radio interference, related to the use of these bulbs/tubes.....for sure the E field is high, and the H field is probably high due the ballast, required to operate the device......

An additional concern is the X-rays emitted....

It would be interesting to research the rise in Brain cancer and the use of fluorescent bulbs.....

Being the expert can you tell me if Ballast installation causes any health concerns.

“You are absolutely and categorically wrong”

All I know is what I read from EPA bulletins

Your assertion is ;Because you claim to work on, design, and build, these type bulbs There is no difference between the mercury, contained in long tube and (even less) in compact fluorescent bulbs. That both use the same method of coating the fluorine/mercury onto the tubes.

You furthur suggest There is no danger (with I assume resonable handling) but if CFL bulb breaks it can be handled like any long tube fluorescent bulb and wouldn’t require the excessive precautions cited by the EPA...And furthur that the EPA doesn’t restrict permission to use a specific type of mercury which it claims is extremely dangerous soley to the manufactuers of compact fluorescent bulbs .

Now if that is true ....Thats a WOW ....I think you should reach Joe Schultz and get on his show
