The Ents Have Gone To War
James Reynolds
In the Tolkien mythologies, the Ents are a race of human-like trees living deep in a primordial forest. Ancient, towering creatures, Ents move slowly and deliberately, requiring decades of contemplation before coming to a decision on matters great and small.
In the Middle Earth Trilogy, Ents are warned time and again of the danger they face at the hand of man, but it is not until they go to the edge of their forest and witness the destruction of their homeland that Ents rise up and defeat their foes.
For almost a decade Middle America has lived as Ents. Buffeted by the attacks of September 11, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the housing crash of 2008, many of my countrymen had, by last autumn, turned inward, losing focus on the cost of freedom.
Overwhelmed by the rapid pace of political and social change beyond their shores, a large group of Americans --like the Ents -- just wanted to be left alone.
But change was in the air, and on November 5, 2009 Barack Obama was elected President of the United States on a nebulous promise of hope and change.
Fast forward to Monday, September 21, 2009: Nancy Pelosi is blubbering about assassins, Jimmy Carter is whining about color, John Stewart is screaming at the reporters of America as to why two kids scooped them on the ACORN story. And then along comes Bertha Lewis.

Either a typo in the year or a tense problem with the past tense "was". Or else the writer needs to consult Time Traveler's Handbook of 1001 Tense Formations.

Yes I do and it is not going to be pretty. Only people without any hope are defeatists like you are.

Actually, that's from the movie trilogy. In the books the Ents aren't stupid, they're perfectly well aware of what is going on around them and decide to fight without being startled into it. They make this decision even though they realize they will probably fail and die.
Also, when Ents get p*ssed off they can move quite rapidly. As a whole bunch of orcs found out.

Actually that quote is from Tora! Tora! Tora! and has never been shown to have been said by Yamamoto. History or Hollywood...... a fine sentiment no matter though.

As do the Rohan knowing they only have 12,000 against 100K+ and do not expect to survive either but they still rally and charge. A real lead from the from the front and follow me moment.

Not true. In the books, the Ents are roused by Treebeard, who calls a council (Entmoot) and brings the 2 hobbits to testify about their ordeal and the plans of Saruman. That plus the evil they had already suffered at the hands of Saruman's orcs finally spurred them into action. They were already singing their war song on the march to Isengard. ("We go, we go, we go to war/ To hew the stone and break the door!")

I guess the President didn't lie in his joint session speech; he just didn't tell the truth. No, he lied.

I'm hardly a defeatist, just a realist, if we can take back the house in 2010 then we'll be on our way. Something must be done about the blatant bias of the MSM. If not, then these freaks will continue to win in a country which would NEVER elect them if the truth were well publicized in our “free press”.
