Here is a little test that will help you decide.
The answer can be found by posing the following question:
#You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children.
Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you.
You are carrying a Colt Model 1911 45 cal. automatic pistol, and you are an expert shot.
You have a mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?
Democrat's Answer :
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun, like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law, say about this situation? Does the pistol, have appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Should I call 9-1-1? Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have paint and weed day and make this happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior. This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a consensus.
Republican's Answer: BANG!

BTW, I'm a Republican, according to this test.
Nevertheless, Texas can claim the two biggest spending presidents in the history of the United States: Lyndon Johnson and George W. Bush. I guess everything is bigger in Texas!

I guess I’m not a Texan because I’d use a S&W Mod 29.
Presidents don’t spend, Congress spends.
And right now, neither of them even come close to the current Congress’s spending.
They execute the budget. They sign it. They say yes! And as far as that goes, if you’re going to be technical, thank another Texan, the Hammer, Tom DeLay, who put those enormous spending budgets together in the House, which were sent off to the President who never vetoed a single budget in six years of Republican rule.
For EDC? (That is Every Day Carry?) How ya gonna conceal that cannon? heh heh
Of course the spending budgets were higher under Bush because he had to deal with two wars, the largest terrorist attack in our country’s history, and the prevention of future terrorist attacks.
Remember that Clinton gutted our military and intelligence services (partly leading to his budget surpluses), but these actions directly resulted in 9-11. Bush had to spend a lot of money to build our infrastructure back up from 8-years of Clinton neglect. Without the spending infusion, we would have been attacked again.
Of all of Bush’s flaws, I don’t fault Bush for his spending requirements, except the TARP crap during his lame-duck period.
So what does that make me?
The man did good regarding terrorism but left a lot to be desired in everything else.

TXDuke, Bush is the 2nd biggest (soon to be third) DOMESTIC spending president (adjusted for inflation) in all American history, after LBJ’s Great Society programs. I’m not even talking about the wars. I’m talking about earmarks and prescription drug programs et al.
As I said, with all of Bush’s other faults, his spending (minus TARP) was not so much the problem.
I agree with you on the other issues like the Rx drug bill and the border/amnesty failures. Bush should have shut the border down. I think those issues are what soured Bush to conservatives. Bush was a good war/anti-terrorism President, but did not alway follow conservative ideals on domestic policy.
However, the other poster was only insulting Bush due to spending levels, which I mostly disagree because much of the spending was necessary.
I would like to see your stats because I find it hard to believe that any president has spent more than the dems favorite “New Deal President” in relation to domestic spending.
I agree the Rx program was bad, but it didn’t increase our domestic spending that much. From everything I’ve read, I don’t believe Bush was anywhere close to one of the highest domestic spending Presidents.
Don’t get me wrong. I like George Bush. I’m only at odds with the initial post that characterizes Texans as some special breed set apart from from the rest of us. I don’t see it. As a matter of fact, based on what I’ve been reading about the disarray in the Texas Republican party, it won’t be long before Texas becomes another state voting solidly in the Democrat column.
After reading some of your previous posts, its clear that you have a problem with Texans since you ask if “all Texans are big spenders”.
Remember even during the recession, TX has one of the strongest economies in the country. If TX was still its own country, I believe the last statistic out showed that TX would have the 8th largest economy in the world. I guess we are doing something right in TX.

I think you misread the initial post. I don’t think it characterized Texans as a “special breed” in the sense of political spending at all.
However, Texans are a “special breed” in terms of favoring gun rights and overall independence. We are the only state to have ever been its own country. We are known for our independence and everything in TX is “bigger” attitude. Texans are proud of their heritage. Also, we are big supporters of gun rights and our new Castle Doctrine allows us to fight back without a need to retreat. You’ll be hard pressed to find a true, native Texan that doesn’t own a few guns and knows how to use them. We are a state with some of the most freedom promoting and business friendly rules.
I’m not sure what you’re talking about regarding your claimed “confusion in the republican party”. Obama has done a lot to solidify the republican in TX. There is no real confusion in the TX Republican party, but our legislature is not full-time so you might have misconstrued the fact that nothing gets done when congress is not in session as “confusion”.
The only thing that hurts TX is the influx of illegals that the feds refuse to do anything about. Also, we have had an influx of yankees bringing their liberal policies to TX. This is why you see a growth in dems in our Congress. Perry is finally doing something to crack down on our border, however, we should also crack down on yankee immigration too.
If the country fails, Texas will survive!
You should also look at the stats for this last election. Conservatives solidly won the state. I think only one other state showed to be more republican/conservative than TX based on votes and election results (I think it was ND).
