It appears the public disagreed with my assessment of the president's speech. I found little redeeming in it however both the President's personal popularity and the popularity of his health care reform bill have gotten a small bounce. The most recent evidence is Rasmussen showing an up trend for both health care reform and the president's popularity.

Obama is very good at saying what people want to hear, and that was the first half of his speech.

There is such a disconnect between what this guy says and what he does. He knows people are concerned about the cost of healthcare, so he just keeps saying that’s his plan. Meanwhile the plan costs an additional $1 trillion and there is nothing in it that will reduce cost.

The HuffPo is boasting about the New England Journal of Medicine poll that shows the vast majority of doctors favor the public option.

I forgot who it was, but someone said that Obama kept taking us into "fantasyland" with his points about government-run health care. For example, he said that there would be no adding to the deficit. The CBO has shown that comment to be pure fantasy.

In the modern age, facts catch up with claims pretty quickly.

POTUS speeches always get a temporary bounce - especially if POTUS can talk like a snake oil salesman ...

But, after a few days, reality sinks in and the numbers generally go back to what they were before the speech.

BTW:

My Grandfather was a pol in Connecticut during the FDR years.

He said that the Speaker of the House (GOP) at the time refused to listen to FDR’s speeches. The Speaker said that if he listened to FDR, he would come away from the speech agreeing with him. The Speaker preferred to read the text of FDR’s speech afterwards.
