AP : Election Trouble Brewing For House Dems In 2010

Hurry up with that Health Care Reform so voters will forget by next year....

NEW YORK — Despite sweeping Democratic successes in the past two national elections, continuing job losses and President Barack Obama's slipping support could lead to double-digit losses for the party in next year's congressional races and may even threaten their House control.

Fifty-four new Democrats were swept into the House in 2006 and 2008, helping the party claim a decisive majority as voters soured on a Republican president and embraced Obama's message of hope and change. Many of the new Democrats are in districts carried by Republican John McCain in last year's presidential contest; others are in traditional swing districts that have proved tough for either party to hold.

Add to that the absence of Obama from the top of the ticket, which could reduce turnout among blacks, liberals and young people, and the likelihood of a highly motivated GOP base confused by the president's proposed health care plan and angry at what they consider reckless spending and high debt.

Taken together, it could be the most toxic environment for Democrats since 1994, when the party lost 34 House incumbents and 54 seats altogether.

angry at what they consider reckless spending and high debt.

Yea, because you know if you consider more debt in 8 years than what the country has accumulated in 230+ years reckless, you know you are just an idiot and a fool.

Do these people even read what they create?

Mid-term elections bring out the base of each party. The Democrat base are not getting wobbly -- they will come out in strength. The GOP base is also strong -- but the GOP will produce candidates that do not appeal to the base of the party. Turnout will not be as much as we would like on our side.

I think 2010 will not help us.

78 seat majority means you need a 40 seat swing. 54 seats are in districts won by Bush and McCain. Charlie Cook says 20 of those are already gone.

Halfway there. The GOP needs to recruit returning vets from the War on Terror, who stand ready to fight the Enemies Within.

highly motivated GOP base confused by the president's proposed health care plan...

Yep, "confused", sure, right. We stupid ones are confused about how you can get something for nothing and fund a government medical plan with the waste, fraud and abuse from another government health care plan. Damn, we're dumb.

It’s amazing how clearly dillusional our President is. Doesn’t he understand that “they” is us?

The GOP needs some strong candidates. Returning vets would be a good place to find them.

Fair warning. In the last election, ACORN was fully mobilized to cheat and capitalize on any weakness, in the system, among the voters, and among the Republicans.

This meant, among many other things, full exploitation of the open primary system to make John McCain the weak Republican nominee, playing off the Republican hesitation to contest open cheating, pumping enormous numbers of fake absentee ballots through the system, while at the same time accusing the Republicans of cheating at every turn.

It was a “total war mode”, and the Republicans thought it was “Queensberry Rules”.

ACORN did things “the Chicago way”, but at a national scale. And the Republicans didn’t seem to have a clue. And in the process they “won” the 2010 census, and plan to gerrymander it as much as they can get away with.

Well...LOOK...we will gain some ground in 2010. In 2012....the sentiment against corruption and the desire for REAL reform will be so great....we will clean the mess out and begin the recovery.

Even Democrats I personally know...who voted for Obama are very unhappy with this spending and lack of common sense. They are embarrassed by Pelosi and Reid.

Midterms always kill first term Presidents.

The conservative base will vote in droves as indicated by the TeaParty yesterday.

We will win alot of seats....40 is alot but it is impossible if the Dems keep up the fight on liberal issues and increase taxes etc.
