Documenting The Destruction: Obama’s Slaughter of Top Quality Used Cars About to Commence En M

Obama is still slow with his Cash for Clunkers reimbursements, but as soon as the vouchers are paid off, the 700,000 mostly top-quality used cars that were turned in will be destroyed, decimating America’s once best-in-the-world used car market.

Do people know that most 2009 models qualified for vouchers? Democrats define “clunkers” the way Islam defines those in need of subjugation. If it is not a “green” vehicle then it is by definition a “clunker” whose demise is not to be mourned, but is to be paid for and celebrated. (Check here whether Democrats would pay for the destruction of your prized possession.)

You see a one year old crew cab Tundra, capable of hauling your business and your family and think, “what wouldn’t I do to keep that $40,000 workhorse from destruction.” Democrats see the same vehicle and think, “I would gladly pay $4,500 of other people’s money to drop that affront to my eco-religion into the crusher.”

2009 Tundra qualifies. So does every new 6 cylinder Toyota pickup, including the smaller Tacomas.

1 acre out of 1500

To document one corner of the car-slaughter that is now underway, I took pictures of every one of the full acre of “clunker” trade-ins at Fremont Toyota. Out of the 450 cars in this lot, hardly a dozen even have a dent (click pic for slideshow):

A Freemont Toyota executive offered an insight why so many of the doomed cars are in immaculate condition. He told me that an unusually small number of Cash for Clunkers participants bought on credit. These were mostly “conservative older people,” he said, the cautious frugal types, bringing in their lovingly cared for 15 or 20 year old cars and paying with a check.

1500 acres of mostly top-quality used cars. This cream of the used car market would have been sold to less wealthy folks who now will face a much tighter and more expensive used car market.

"The $3,000-to-$5,000 car is just gone."

Good for Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn for speaking up. From USA Today:

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., called that provision [to destroy the trade-ins] "nuts" during debate in the Senate last week. He said that in his state, one trade-in had less than 10,000 miles on the odometer. "We're going to destroy the opportunity for somebody less fortunate to have that automobile," he said.

Used car dealers agree. They say fewer older cars are at auction.

My father-in-law (an Obama voter) is in the market for a used pickup truck. We’ve checked the inventories of several major GM, Ford and Dodge dealers in the area and not one to be found.

I live very near several major automobile dealerships. They almost always have a lot of top quality used cars sittingaround (usually by the thousands).

Remember "The Million Man March"? Well, the guys came through here 6 and 7 to a car and parked all over the place to catch the Metro downtown. Before doing that most of the "passengers" stopped by the used car dealers and bought a vehicle.

By the end of the day there were no used cars left in the throbbing heart of beautiful downtown Springfield!

Obama hates black people ~

This is an absolute sin, waste and disgrace perpetrated by a completely out of control government.

How many raw materials, energy, etc. were used to manufacture these vehicles for them only to be destroyed with much useful life left in them.

Add to that the raw materials and energy needed to scrap them and transport them and to build their replacements and you can’t possibly justify this government boondoggle to supposedly “save energy” and “lessen pollution”.

And now, those people who traded in their older car before they normally would have, will NOT be buying a new car in the upcoming months. In the end, I’m willing to bet all this will not have sold any more cars than would have otherwise been sold, it just moved the timetable up. Feast followed by famine...

I made the decision to hang onto mine, although a 1994 Chevy pickup would certainly fit their criteria. Given the low insurance and property tax I pay, along with the ability to plow snow, haul building supplies and act as the main car when the jeep is in the shop, this is a good deal.

As a Jeep fan, I am disheartened to see so many used Wranglers being turned in for destruction....vehicles that would have been purchased by enthusiasts and made into great off-road vehicles.

Of course, Obama and the Democrats hate people who drive off-road as many other off-road enthusiasts are now realizing.

Try to buy an inexpensive new or used car recently? You can't. 'Clunkers' artificially reduced inventories, and as a result, prices are ridiculously high. Case in point, I was quoted $15.6k for a 2010 Mazda3 just before clunkers. Same car today? 17.3k. Checked three dealers. BTW, they don't actually have any of them. You have to wait six weeks. They have more expensive models, mind you. Want to buy used? A 2 year old Mazda3 costs 15k (what I was quoted for a new one eight weeks ago). Mazda, Nissan and Honda dealers all told me the same thing. "Clunkers' screwed everything out of whack. And since they will destroy 700k perfectly good used cars, things won't get better soon.

Most Americans have no idea what kind of evil Barack Obama is carrying out on every level of this nation. King Obama and his minions are truly a cancer on America.

Being in the car business, I think a lot of what is being said is bs. I don’t think the clunker program made an impact on the auto market in the least. If someone is trading in a truck with less than 10,000 miles, they are the ones getting screwed. That dealership would be a fool to destroy the car. 100 bucks it ended up on the used car lot. Dealers can offer “clunker” trade in value and not file. Therfore reselling it at wholesale.

The Mazda dealership that sold me my '06 Mazda 3 calls me every few weeks begging me to trade it in so they can use it to meet demand for used ones. It's a great car, with plenty of years left in it. There's no way in heck I'm giving it up before its time.

I have a '77 CJ-5 with the 304 V8. They will never get it from me.

I know what a lie. That people could actually believe this is good for the environment just shows how stupid they are.

Exactly right. An incredible waste of energy and resources.

The engine parts on these vehicles alone could supply commercial fleeets for years. But no, Obama says they must be destroyed and melted down. Some of the iron will be re-cast into the same perfectly goods parts they are now melting.

Gee, this will force people to buy new vehicles from the UAW/Government Motors instead of buying a used vehicle.

Imaging that! I am sure this was an unintended consequence. </sarcasm>

Anybody who purchases a vehicle from GM or Chrysler is Obama's bitch.
