We sit at this moment watching the names of the victims of the attacks on the World Trade Centers being read in remembrance of them. We notice that the names are read by pairs of readers. On your right, as you watch, a relative of a victim reads. The relative reads the name, and finishes with a comment about how hurt they are at the loss of their loved one. It's a bit vain, because, after all, remembrance is about the victim, not the survivors.
But the real offense comes from the individual on your left. When they're done reading the names of the victims, the announce proudly that they are "honored to be here on behalf of" some volunteer organization. For example, somebody from "Elders Receive the Arts" just read some names.
What on earth are these "volunteers" doing here, since they haven't lost anybody? And why is the world forced to hear about their "volunteer organizations?" That's easy. They're pimping the president's agenda, on a day that's supposed to be sacred.
How does that make you feel? Even somebody who lost nobody on September 11, 2001, and yet the hijacking of is memory in this way makes me feel dirty and used. I wonder how it will make those who did lose somebody feel, to have the memory of their loved ones used to promote Obama's bright ideas.
Proving once again that DemonRATs and their “community activist” fellow travellers, have no sense of honor, no sense of reverence, no respect, and NO SHAME!
Can we get an apology?
Didn’t think so.
Obamah and his Administration, House & Senate Democrats just suck!
I'll bet there were some Juan MeCain Republicans that voted for this assine National Day of Service on 9-11. ..you know, just to get along and be nonpartisan.
How does that make you feel? Even somebody who lost nobody on September 11, 2001 might find the hijacking of the memory of the victims in this way disconcerting. We wonder how it will make those who did lose somebody feel, to have the memory of their loved ones used to promote a political agenda that is wholly unrelated to the events of September 11, 2001.
Couldn’t agree more. But the timing of the president’s “service” day may end with an irony he hasn’t planned if the ACORN tapes continue to be exposed. And I can’t believe Beck or anyone else intended so utterly fitting a penalty for those who would pimp 9/11. Sometimes Providence steps in where even the most intrepid warriors fear to tread.
This year we commemorate the first September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. The tragic events of September 11, 2001 inspired Americans to come together in a remarkable spirit of unity and compassion. It was a stark reminder that our fate as individuals is inherently tied to the fate of our nation. Eight years later, September 11 continues to evoke strong emotion and is an homage to sacrifice and a call to action. In April, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act which, for the first time, officially recognizes September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. This year, on September 11, the President, the Corporation for National and Community Service, MyGoodDeed and the 9/11 families will ask all Americans to remember that Tuesday eight years ago and recommit to service in their communities throughout the year. We encourage you to continue to promote service by commemorating this milestone through the United We Serve initiative.
He's alienated most of New York City today alone. With ever step forward into his radical vision, he adds significant measure of future backlash.
I have serious problems with Obama thinking he has the authority to make any decrees regarding September 11.
His views of the United States makes any reference to September 11 offensive to me.
He thinks he can "fundamentally transform" the United States into something abhorrent to those who risked their lives and fortunes to create this nation and still be permitted to pretend he respects the nation he is dedicated to transforming into a nanny state.
His arrogance is repugnant to me as an American.
September 11th hits close to home for me. I find the “pimping” disgusting. I find the way the whole tenor of the discussion surrounding 911 has changed very disturbing. In fact there are days that I am feeling pretty hopeless about the future of our nation and culture.
And now we have to have the day profaned with the name of the murderer from chappequidic.
'Cause, you know, it's all about hope and change.
Let's face it, folks have moved on. If we really wanted to show how strong we were, we would have built it by 2005 (the latest), and had nothing but a small plaque near where the original towers stood. More than 1,000 women and children died in the General Slocum disaster of 1904, yet all they received was a tiny fountain in Tompkins Square. What ever happened to the "stiff upper lip?"
"No cause is ever truly lost because no cause is ever truly won."
Maybe somebody ought to tell these idiots that “service” = “work for free”.
