Ready For the Newest Obamacare Messaging?
Publius Forum ^ | 09/02/09 | Warner Todd Huston

ABC’s Jake Tapper has an interesting look inside the Obama messaging factory as it appears to be making plans to change its way of trying to sell Obamacare to the country. This change is in the offing because Obama is thus far losing the debate and they are all painfully aware of this in the White House.

Tapper has a revealing quote from former Senator Tom Daschle (D, SD) that presages the new, new way of selling the snake oil that is Obamacare.

“I think we have to do better at making this issue a moral imperative,” Daschle told the New York Times Magazine.

“I don’t think we’ve succeeded at that yet. I think the more we can bring everybody to an understanding about how this, in many respects, is the civil rights battle of the early part of this century — it’s a fight for the disabled, it’s a fight for the sick, it’s a fight for equal rights when it comes to health."

So we’ve gone form calling it a “healthcare” plan, to calling it “insurance reform,” now, it seems, we are about to retool the debate into a “civil rights” issue.

Yeah, and the media will let him re-message without even bothering to point out that this is like the third or fourth "message" for the same thing that he's trying to sell!

Obamessiah thinks he can hypnotize and memorize the masses by continuing to open his pie hole and LIE, LIE, LIE about his and the democRATS deathcare bill.

Sorry Obama, you have TOTALLY lost the overwhelming majority of the American people... WE DON'T TRUST YOU OR ANYTHING YOU SAY BECAUSE YOU ARE A LIAR WHO WILL SAY ANYTHING TO TRY AND PULL THE WOOL OVER THE AMERICAN PEOPLES EYES. You are a communist/socialist/Marxist who has surrounded yourself with fellow traveler communist/socialist/Marxists who are bent upon destroying America from within and we want NO PART OF YOU OR ANYTHING YOU OR THE democRATS are trying to foist upon America or the American people.

You can read your teleprompters from now till the cows come home and WE REFUES TO LISTEN ANY LONGER. Instead we are doing everything in our power to fight you and your evil policies.

One more thing; WE ARE NO LONGER WATCHING YOU, EVERY TIME YOU SHOW YOUR FACE ON TV WE TURN THE CHANNEL.

From a party who believes that abortion is about "choice" or "privacy"... what of those morals?

THey have been there, done that, and failed. People don't see health care as a moral issue, they see it as a personal issue. Will they be better off under Obama's plan. The 84% who are currently happy with their health coverage is saying, 'hell no'. No amount of Obama-spin is going to change that.

So we’ve gone form calling it a “healthcare” plan, to calling it “insurance reform,” now, it seems, we are about to retool the debate into a “civil rights” issue.

The obvious response from Republicans would be that it is therefore now "a reparations issue".
Let's see who has the guts.

It always comes back to a civil rights march when nothing else works. Same thing with Shamnesty and queer marriage.

Civil Rights? LOLOLOL. The problem with this logic is the disabled, the sick (they forgot the elderly) know this bill will impact them first. They're out there at town halls fighting against this "reform".

And....what's this "equal rights when it comes to health"? What the heck does that mean?

Don't exclude its brief period as TeddyCare.

It reminds me of Gore reintroducing himself again and again in 2000, and Kerry reinventing himself again and again in 2004. They were still the same contents, no matter how many times they changed the packaging.

The emotional appeal hasn't worked. Civil right? Didn't some already try playing the race card -- those against Obamacare are racists?

Call it what you will, but that pile still stinks. And spraying some perfume isn't going to make the stink go away.

“I think we have to do better at making this issue a moral imperative,”

How can the further enslaving of 50% of the American people be moral?

The moral thing to do is share the work, so the other half leeching off the system can pay for their own health care. It's immoral to enslave half the population to cover the other half's incompetence.

Give a man free stuff, and he'll have free stuff for the day. Teach a man to care for himself, and he can buy his own free stuff for life.

If the founding fathers believed free health care was a right, they would have included free doctor visits in the Bill of Rights. They didn't.

THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER
This one is a little different...Two Different Versions! .................Two Different Morals!
OLD VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green.’ Acorn stages a demonstration in front of the ant’s house where the news stations film the group singing, ‘We shall overcome.’
Rev. Jeremiah Wright then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper’s sake. Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share. Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar.
The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ants food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant’s old house, crumbles around him because he doesn’t maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2010.

No, not all of the disabled understand. My brother has been disabled for over half of his life and all he sees is hopelessness around him. So, when he hears that the government is going to take care of all of his healthcare needs, he thinks it is like manna from heaven, because he cannot imagine what the future holds.

Many see a lifetime of illness stretched before them and have bought into the victimhood ideology. They do see it as a civil rights issue, because they see themselves as disabled, they don’t see themselves as a person who can manage their illnesses. There are many illnesses that are manageable, but the costs of medical care and the government turning the insurance companies into the bad guy scares them.

They don’t understand that the government, in making healthcare available to all will ration care for the disabled and the elderly. They believe that they will be a protected class, like under civil rights legislation.

They don’t understand the framing of the argument. They see themselves as victims.
