All you San Diego County guys or those who visit there frequently, this is Fish Taco Tuesday. The Spouse informs me it starts at 2:30 every day, not 4:00 as it used to, and it's not $1.00 (we knew that), but $1.25.
Most of these stores are located in the Republican Belt which stretches from the Karlsbad shoreline and the pier at Oceanside all the way to Arizona. It's about 10 miles wide, and Richard Nixon is still a name that commands respect.
Good Republicans everywhere look forward to visiting Rubio's ~ so next time you're out there plotting and planning, or helping out the old folks, or maybe surfing (there are sharks around here so be careful), be sure to Remember Tuesdays and chow down on a fabulous bit of nostalgia. This is California BEFORE the arrival of all the tourists.

It’s spelled Carlsbad, not Karlsbad, and the original stand is near my parent’s house in Pacific Beach.

Rubio’s and Wahoo’s Fish Tacos are one of the (very) few things I miss about California. Strange that here in New England people think nothing of lobster rolls, but mere mention of the words, “fish taco” either gets you a look of increduility or a the giggle of a deviant and immature mind.

I think this one might be salmon, but it's close enough.

Mmm. Thanks for the thread. Now I’m hungry...

They dropped the salmon taco again so now folks with gluten intolerance will have to stick to the shrimp tacos ~ which are excellent.
The picture shows a battered hunk of white fish of some kind ~ so "THAT'S THE ONE" that's $1.25 tonight ~ and you just have a few more hours to go.

The url of the photo I posted said "salmon," but it looks like their fish taco, so I thought it was good enough for posting purposes.
I'm not at home or I would be heading to Rubio's. Thanks for making me HUNGRY! :)

I have made fish tacos several times in the last month as a fishing trip to Canada blessed me with a bounty of wonderful rock fish and ling cod. I am going to visit family over Labor Day in NH tomorrow, and am going to make sure to eat lobster and fried clams at least once. Maybe I will make a lobster taco? Actually fresh haddock would make great fish tacos.

I always like a carne asada burritos there. They were real close to my Pacific Beach apartment when I was in Submarine Sonar School.

Actually, Rubios had lobster on their menu at one time. And while lobster rolls SOUND good, and are pretty tasty, they’re pretty simple, too.

I’m going against the grain on this thread, I know....but Rubio’s “fish tacos” really suck; mushy and too gooey for my tastes.

What you have to do is EAT THEM AT THE STORE. Taking them home is not “the way”.

Yep, I know they did, but I prefer my lobster steamed or just the tails broiled. Am I correct to visualize a lobster roll similar to a burrito or more like a rolled taco? Heck, I’ll do a search myself. :)
