Wow. It’s almost as if car buyers are taking a stand against GM and Chrysler as “government motors”.

Clearly, we need to send them more billions in stimulus. Better yet, Congress should pass an “ObamaCar” bill, mandating that everyone must buy a GM or Chrysler car, or pay a hefty fine for non-compliance.

Notice how we NEVER hear any news about the financial status of Government Motors anymore?

And why should we? It just doesn’t matter. They can’t fail anymore - the .GOV will just continue to seal money from us at gunpoint to keep them afloat, no matter what.

We’ll never hear another word about GM’s financial state.

Wow. It’s almost as if car buyers are taking a stand against GM and Chrysler as “government motors”.

It is also the expected result of killing dealerships, entire makes (Pontiac), going into bankruptcy, and overall cutting back on new product.

Gee, I guess mugabe didn’t think we would remember that he took ownership of the car companies away from the legal owners and gave them to the union thugs. Then the word came out that they would use our taxpayer money to subsidize new car purchases. Then the word got out that they were mandated to destroy the used cars. And it dosen’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that after the program is over, the sales will drop like a rock. No thanks, mugabe, I chose to purchase from a non union company. Getting this government involved in a simple transaction just screws it up.

GM sells (sold?) more cars than Ford overall. But Ford was a big winner from C4C because the Focus is a good, solid, reasonably-priced little car, and the Escape is a good little SUV. We have a 2000 Focus that we bought used, and we test-drove it against a 2000 Chevy Cavalier...no contest. The Cavalier was a total piece of garbage compared to the Focus. Needs more power (ours has the anemic little base 110 hp four-banger) but the steering and overall construction is superb. If we could afford it, I’d be looking VERY hard at a Fusion right now.

GM’s small cars suck, to be blunt. Chrysler’s are worse, and it pains me to say that because I’m a huge Mopar fan. Ford has better ones, and the imports still rule the roost.

Because there’s a lot more to overall car sales than just the top 10 cars. GM is a HUGE company, bigger than Ford (up until Toyota passed them last year highest sales in the industry), with more models than Ford and higher overall sales than Ford. But if the trends continue that will end, Ford will eventually pass them just like Toyota did.

My understanding is that there was an amendment that the C4C program only applied to U.S. Manufacturers (Ford, GM and Chrysler), but this was shot down by the Dems.

Thus the precious dollar did not help our ailing car manufactures; GM and Chrysler and their supporting industries. DOH!

Ya, that would be the reason, but I ran some Excel scenarios and GM would have had to rule the 11 - 20 category. Therea re two problems with this:

1.) GM did not have enough qualified models

2.) The government screwed up and had the program in the middle of production model shift. Since GM was in Bankruptcy they were the most idol and could not get models to the dealers.

They wouldn’t have to “rule” 11-20. GM alone has dozens of different models on the market right now, the total vehicle market including all non-boutique manufacturers and ignoring motorcycles is well over 100 vehicles. The top 10 while interesting data really doesn’t tell much about overall sales. Post 11 has the August sales numbers, and while GM took a bath in year over year they still came close to a quarter million sales, it’s a sign of how big they were that they could smoke 20% of their sales and still move 245,000 units.
