Brent Dewar, Chevrolet vice president, told reporters the company expects "to see a modest recovery in 2010 and a better recovery in 2011." The recovery is based on that projection that smaller cars will surge to overtake trucks and SUVs as GM's best sellers. That means the remaining GM dealers will have to get used to promoting and selling smaller cars if they want to survive. Last week GM decided to ax a new Buick compact SUVjust days after it was deemed essential to the success of the brand. So it comes as no surprise that many GM dealers, who had much success in the SUV heyday, are concerned.

GM's Volkswagen Beetles.
JJ to remaining dealers:
Learn to live without my money.
Ping.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I just don’t see people paying big bucks for a Chevy subcompact, no matter how gussied up the interior is.
GM dealers better find some pretty slick salespeople to peddle expensive small cars.
This whole strategy reminds me of the old Cadillac Cimarron-a Caddy built on a Cavalier platform and costing twice as much. They didn’t sell many.
Meyer to remaining dealers: Dump the fascist GM and sell something else.
I wonder if the GM dealers can make a business decision and go over to Toyota.
"learn to live without my money"
You've received the last dime you'll get from me without the aid of gov't extortion squezing it from my paycheck....
poetic justice would be a line of these go-karts being driven over by a lifted Ford F-150 with Super Swamp tires.
It’s extremely sad to see this.
I worked for GM Assembly when the plants were still required to make out reviews as to their capabilities to convert to war time manufacturing. (I did a couple of them myself and they were a lesson in history)
I wonder if any new car dealer wants to sign an agreement to sell their product. Might as well be a multi platform/manufacturer dealer (like used cars) and forgo the repair/warranty side of the contract.
GM will do well. The government will assign small cars to people who are allowed to drive cars. The only people permitted to drive large cars will be politicians. celebreties and other communist party leaders.
That FJ Cruiser is looking better all the time.
To replace the Aztech??
A fellow on Click and Clack last week had a ltd with 450,000 miles.
DO NOT WANT
In the state of TN, GM and Chrysler didn’t register in the top ten models of cars purchased in the cash for clunkers program. Ford had 2 models. Doesn’t sound like government motors is working out to good.
That’s my next vehicle purchase, already saving money. Hope to buy a used one in cash in about 5 years.
These GM executives know better. The margins on small care are (like the cars): tiny. In fact, with UAW labor, they probably sell each car at a loss. The trucks and SUVs, when they were selling, kept GM afloat. This is corporate suicide, but they probably have no choice. The Government holds the purse strings and they are the boss now. Going green will cause them to go even further into the red.
Screw you, Government Motors!
