The political rhetoric, rumours and activities of lobbying groups all point to the next proposal to float out of the White House, a national Food Tax. In May, the Wall Street Journal reported Senate Finance Committee discussions over the possibility of a new federal tax on soft drinks and sugary drinks as another method of raising revenues in light of forthcoming health care reform proposals. At the time, Democratic Senators requested that the CBO prepare revenue estimates based upon the implementation of such a tax, leading many to believe that a tax proposal was on the way.
Three months later, no such proposal has been officially entered into the record, but considering open support of such a proposal by Senator Baucus and a new line of rhetoric by the President Obama, there is no doubt that such legislation will soon be proposed. As the Health Care Debate has ensued, the President has once again turned to the argument that government promoted preventive care would lead to drastic cost savings within the health care debate. The President has once again cited the example that if you don’t have any idea on what to do just tax the hell out of the people.
Gee will those making under $250,000 get a tax credit for sodas so Obama can still say he didn’t increase taxes on them? Obama and Congress also forget that taxes have economic consequences. A tax on soda could easily result in many bottling companies laying off route drivers or closing altogether. Just what our economy needs ... more job losses.

We need to simply vote out all, and I mean ALL, incumbents at the next elections.
Typical liberal thinking. This is the “luxury tax” all over.
Who will suffer the most when Americans reduce their purchases of snack cakes to avoid this tax? The rank and file members of the United Food and Commercial Workers union who make Hostess, Little Debbie and most other snack cakes and snack foods we consume.
Don’t believe me, turn over the wrapper on your HoHos and “look for the union label”. It’s there.

Breathing and exhaling carbon dioxide, burning evil petroleum, eating unhealthy foods, using government mandated health care, working for a "free" company who will pay more into government via mandate, and paying for public education whether I use it or not, will cost me a bit more but hey, I'll cut back on pets after a pet tax is put in place on pet ownership.
See, a bit of innovation and frugal thinking and not much will affect me.
