I was listening to NPR today (I know, I know), and someone was interviewing Spike Lee, who, for some reason, is throwing a birthday celebration for Michael Jackson. Lee said he was "devestated" by Jackson's death and that he loved him. While musing on the fact that Spike is a militiant loudmouth and the irony of his celebrating a self-hating black man who literally bleached his skin (so it is claimed) and what an asshat Lee is, I also realized I admire some of his work. So, I began to think of other celebs and artists whose work I admire (or have admired) but whose viewpoints I can't stand. I came up with Spike Lee, Alec Baldwin (funny on SNL), Moby, Robert Altman, Hunter Thompson, Johnny Depp, Pearl Jam, David Letterman (for the old Late Night), Neil Young, Grateful Dead (the Deadheads for Obama crap; Jerry wouldn't have done it!), Henry Rollins, and Stephen King. I'm sure there's more, but that's what I came up with. Now, how about yours? Who are the artists you like but hate? And give your favorite artists whose views you detest without comment on everyone else's taste (including mine!) ;-) I'd love to see what people come up with.

You almost have to separate artist from their politics, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to watch 95% of what’s on tv or the movies. Unless they become truly, viscerally offensive, I still try to enjoy the stuff.
Actually, the title is misleading; I meant performers, actors, musicians, etc. whose work you like but whose views you can’t stand, not that you hate. Shoulda been more clear.
True. I find it easy to do, too. Unless, like you say, they become truly offensive, or if they make a piece of work that is political diatribe. But, yeah, you have to separate the artist from the beliefs.
I like some of Spielberg’s work, but he’s a lib.

I saw Julie and Julia yesterday, and my first comment after seeing it was that “Meryl Streep is not in that movie.” Because Julia Child was in it. Meryl is an amazingly gifted actress. It’s undeniable.
Yet there were two really gratuitous little slams against Republicans in the movie. I chose to just forget about them and enjoy the show.
I’m not a big deadhead but I love this Jerry Garcia quote that I read somewhere (maybe Cleveland Zoo):
