The Social Security administration announce earlier this week that under current cost of living adjustment guidelines, Senior citizens will likely see no increase in their Social Security checks over the next 2 years. However, while news reports have centered on the lack of increase in social security benefits, they have largely ignored the fact that no Social Security increase will directly result in a decrease in Medicare benefits and a lower net Social Security check for recipients.
Under current federal guidelines, Medicare premiums, deductibles and copays adjust on an annual basis. However, the amount of increase in Medicare premiums is to no more than the cost-of-living adjustment extended by social security. As a result, if Social Security fails to grant a cost of living adjustment, then Medicare premiums cannot be increased. If Medicare cannot increase premiums next year then it means that the system must raise deductibles and co-pays under the system by a greater amount to offset ...

Look at it this way. The marker by which COLA is adjusted hasn’t gone up. Ergo, no COLA increase in SS. Makes sense to me.....If it goes down, at least they don’t reduce the payments. Sorry, but being due is one thing, greed is another.

I find it hard to disagree with not increasing government benefits. If 0bama is behind this, then I agree with his decision in this regard.
