Arthur Frommer needs to get out more
The Examiner.com ^ | 23 August, 2009 | Mike Stollenwerk

This week Arizonans were shocked when iconic travel industry promoter Arthur Frommer blogged that

"I will not personally travel in a state where civilians carry loaded weapons onto the sidewalks [and t]ourists should safeguard themselves by avoiding stays in Arizona."

Mr. Frommer's comments, touched off a firestorm of criticism - so much so that as of publication of this column, Frommer's blog entry attracted 1,061 comments compared to the usual 8 comments or so for his other blog entries.

. . .

Well Mr. Frommer? Are you going to keep blogging against travel in your own country? Let us know.

In the meantime, please try to get out more.

“...iconic travel industry promoter Arthur Frommer...”

Uh, who is this and why should I care?

I have the same comment every time I see the starlet-of-the-week go into rehab, show her private parts, etc.

I mean, sometimes I wonder at a culture where everyone seems to be famous to the point that no one can get noticed w/o doing something outrageous.

I guess that Iraq, Afghanistan (not to mention most S. American societies) no longer allow free and open carry of weapons?

Sorry Mr Fromer, They do.

But you only see what AMERICANS do.

Liberalism is a tough disease to cure. Only reality cures the disease. I hope you get a dose - soon!

Well, I can sympathize. I prefer safe Chicago where you can go out at night knowing that only the criminals have the concealed weapons. Why, in Arizona, the criminals have the concealed weapons and the ordinary citizens, which amounts to a net increase of guns that might shoot me.

OK, I was just stepping inside Mr. Frommer's head for a second to see how he might "think."

If I have a single, hot-button issue, it's gun control. How any sane person could argue that I do not have the right to defend myself, and that I somehow must call the police while I'm being pistol whipped is beyond me. If that doesn't work, it's just my obligation to die, I guess.

I travel a lot, and anything Frommer is now banned in my house! Not that that means anything because I never liked their books anyway.

**We have open carry in Colorado.**

That was the first time I saw Open carry was in Colorado... two men in their 3 piece suits, cowboy hat, boots, and .. MATCHING TOOLED LEATHER BRIEFCASES and HOLSTERS.

Was a bit of a shock for a NY’er.. where they have us trained to believe knowing someone who owns a sidearm is illegal.

Frommer needs to talk to Suzanna Hupp, the woman who left her handgun in the car due to anti-carry laws in TX during a meal with her parents at Luby’s Cafeteria. She watched helplessly as both were murdered in front of her when a whackjob went berserk and shot up the restaurant. One well-placed shot could have taken him down and saved lives.

His daughter Pauline was recently on FOX arguing that Americans should most certainly NOT avoid Mexico and that any such fears were silly.

Double standard, thy name is Frommer.

Their lousy advice will get some Americans killed. The mass murders and beheadings aren’t just TJ and border states any more.

A decapitated body with signs of torture was found in a bag near Cancun. A man was shot as he attempted to flee from his assailants on a heavily traveled street in downtown Cancun.

El Sur (Acapulco, Guerrero) 8/17/09

Article headings from the state and local news section: Beheaded victim found with narcomessage on highway from Zihuatanejo to Lazaro Cardenas ***** Taco shop owner in Ixtapa shot dead ***** Farmer and three sons murdered in Zapotitlan ***** Two “young men” found tied up and executed in Tres Palos (a town some 15 mi. outside Acapulco). [But “Milenio” (a Mexico City paper) today recapped events in the same area and tallied two beheadings and a total of nine homicides. The two at Tres Palos had been tortured and each had been executed with a coup de grace.]

I actually have never seen a citizen carrying in CO. Which is a shame. I had a friend years ago (died on his motorcycle) who strapped on his Colt Navy blackpowder pistol every now and then to go pick up his mail. I guess back then it wasn't illegal to carry on federal property. He was always pleased as punch when a police officer asked to see it. He handed it over, they looked it over, they handed it back and he went on his way.

I have seen people carry openly in NM. Followed a guy into a WalMart in Silver City who had a .45 on his hip. He didn't even get a second look inside the store.
