Here is video of political analyst Dick Morris on The O'Reilly Factor last night where he said some of President Obama's "core support" is now fleeing him. Morris's analysis is preceded by Bill O'Reilly's "Talking Points" segment, focusing on Barney Frank and his Town Hall Meeting.
A primary group of support for Obama and the Democrats has been the elderly, who are no fleeing him because they are terrified of the impact ObamaCare will have on Medicare and on their health care. Their personal security, they feel, is being threatened.
O'Reilly said he believes whenever the Democrats talk down to Americans at the Town Hall Meetings, or demonize them, it is also serving to bring down Obama's support because of the perception they do not respect the opinions of average Americans. But Morris said he believes Obama is more committed to far left principles than he is to getting reelected, and is therefore willing to "march Democrats off the cliff" to get ObamaCare passed. . . . . The bad news is that Morris is almost always wrong...
Well that’s true - Morris isn’t exactly Nostradamus. But what he’s saying here doesn’t require anyone to be a psychic. It’s no mystery that the elderly are the ones on the chopping block because they’re the ones that have to be eliminated because of cost cutting. There’s no reason to eliminate the healthy (unless they’re Conservatives :) ). They get it. So Morris is right because it’s obvious for anyone to see.
You know, I really don’t know what to make of Morris- his push polls and focus groups were largely responsible for Clinton clinging to office.
To our detriment, I realize, but he was damn good there. As a prognosticator, he seems to be about half right, half wrong— but he’s always got an opinion...
Morris needs a new thesaurus. The word he is looking for is evidence not perception.
I’ve always thought Barry’s goal is to ram as much Marxism through congress as possible as fast as possible even if it costs him the next election. It’s got to be done in the dark of night or it will be bitterly opposed. Once in the light, he’s toast. Also, his provisions are being phased in over time so he has cover (like the “stimulus” being dribbled out over multiple years so it doesn’t tank the economy or cause hyperinflation) while he’s building a Marxist monopoly.
They get it now, but where were there heads at prior to election day? The sad thing is that “da bama” is pursuing the very agenda of “fundemental change” he promised during the election, yet these idiots still voted for him anyway and only now act surprised by his marxist agenda? Chowder heads.
People committed to hard core leftist principles do not consider elections as impediments to their staying in power.
By 2012 there will be enough head knockers to assure access to the polling places is democrat controlled.
The programed progressives are the only ones who will help Obama.
Excellent question and one that I've been asking since before the election when the polls showed strong support for Obamalamadingdong among seasoned citizens. How is it possible for what should be the most experienced among us, those who have seen more phony politicians than any of us, could possibly fall for what was so obviously nothing more than an Ivy League, smooth talking Marxist?
Now that I can completely agree with. Nice post.
I would absolutely love to see some ACORN twits try to disrupt a polling location here in SE Tennessee. It would put a new meaning on the term "ass whoopin'" That sort of stuff might fly in Philly, but try it here and you very likely will lose teeth....
I think that he is largely right in this reading of the numbers. But let us be mindful of what is occurring here: His thesis says that the seniors are abandoning the Democrat party because the party which had given them Social Security under Roosevelt and had given them Medicare under Lyndon Johnson now threatens to take away the rice bowl. In effect, the parties have swapped positions. The Democrats are looking like Scrooge and the Republicans appear to be defending the right of seniors to keep their entitlement.
This is essentially an anomalous situation that will not long obtain. Either the Democrats will wise up and find a way between now and November 2010 to posture as the great entitlement givers or they will find a way, as they have every election cycle, to libel the Republicans as satanic princes who would take away their Social Security.
It is really by accident of overreaching and incompetence that the Democrats found themselves on the wrong end of this issue. But, for the Republican to continue to to profit from the issue, they must find a way of taking credit for defending an entitlement which many of us feel is unconstitutional and wrongheaded. This dilemma is personified in the figure of Mitt Romney who is taking flak from the Republican right because he created in Massachusetts an entitlement which they allege spends too much. Can the same Republicans be heard to say in the next breath that they are supporting senior citizens entitlement to healthcare?
The analogy is to a pole reversal in the Earth's magnetic field. Sooner or later the Democrats will find a way to give away more money to more interest groups which require Republicans to stand athwart the gravy train tracks shouting, "stop."
I believe the key to avoiding this trap perennially laid on by liberals to make conservatives look mean is to continue to pound on the issue of liberty. Republicans are defending the right to die in dignity with every right to an equal portion of the commonweal's assets devoted to their care. The Democrats find themselves in the position, unaccountably, in which they put on the green eye shades and insidiously deprive one class, the elderly, of equal share of society's assets to favor another class. That is the issue for us.
barry is less of a Marxist than he is an obamist...
This man is pure ego. His Marxist principals are rooted in the belief that by stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, he will become more popular...
I figured he had to ram it all thru ASAP so they could spend the remaining 3+ years getting people to forget what happened. Americans tend to have short memories, and he’d want to take advantage of that. Drop the whole thing in place fast enough to avoid debate, then act like it’s all perfectly normal and spin & obfuscate his way to the next election. It would be even more pressing for Congress, facing 2010 - get it all done in about 6 months, then do damage control from there. The key for them is getting the socialist/marxist/fascist axioms into law ASAP. Once in place, work the new status quo.
There was a day when that wouldn’t have happened in Philly either. I’d love to know what neighborhood that happened in. Because it would never have happened in Kennsington when I lived there.
I've always considered The One to be a University Marxist, basically all theory and no practice which enables him to be both arrogant and wrong on many, many levels.
But you make a really good point. zer0 doesn't seem to understand *anything* fully. It's all just bits and pieces of ideas he likes and he swirls them around in his empty head like a food processor and something like unpalatable mush comes out.
The classic example of this is when he was asked during the campaign what he thought the definition of "sin" is. He answered that sin is when he doesn't live up to HIS OWN ideals.
Wow.
I agree with you. I don’t believe we’ll ever have free elections again.

Very true, although I'm not so sure that people in general are really all that supportive of either party at this point in time. It's becoming obvious to even casual observers, thanks in part to the arrogant, elitist attitudes of elected politicians on display at the various town halls, that our gubmint is utterly and completely out of control and politicians have completely forgotten that they serve at the consent of the governed. People are finally starting to realize that the gubmint is inept, broke, and the money they spent, by and large, was wasted. This is only going to become more apparent as the babyboomers move into retirement as Medicare and Socialist (in)Security continue their slide into failure. The money simply isn't there to fix these problems. Taxing more and/or monetizing the debt will only make things worse.
I'd venture to say that a large number of folks in this country have lost confidence in the gubmint entirely, although few seem to have any idea what to do about it. Hopefully, they will get a clue by the time the primaries roll around in 2010. One thing is certain, though. If we were able to throw all the bums out of Congress today it's going to take several generations to clean up the mess, assuming it can be cleaned up at all......
True, but they don't need to go to Tennessee, or Philly for that matter. Just a few carefully chosen swing precincts in a few swing states is all it's going to take.
