Colleges to parents: you can pay the way, but can’t see the results

Parents will be forbidden from receiving and accessing their dependent child's grades at colleges and universities - even when they pay for the entire cost of the child's education.

Just pay up and don't ask questions

“At some point it doesn’t make sense throwing money in the toilet if they’re flunking out or not attending.”

I have several friends who have been down this road with their kids. Ouch!

Why would anyone fund flunking kids or kids who aren't even in college any more?

Hey, if parents do this, then they deserve whatever the consequences are. They'd be better off taking a great vacation or buying something for themselves since the kids are taking advantage of them.

Oh—the amounts I know of are way bigger than what a vacation would cost. More like a nice brand new car!

I had one friend whose son did nothing but play video games his first semester of school. I’m not sure he even went to class once. I think they were out 20 grand. No, he didn’t go back the next semester.

I’ve had other friends who have spent substantially more than that on their children’s “education.”

Again, if they insist on funding losers ...

This is not new. Been that way for at least 20 years.

I agree-

In the case with the kid who was playing video games, the parents didn’t have a clue. He is a huge nerd, very smart, and didn’t party. He just never left his room or computer. I think he was telling his parents enough that they were satisfied he was doing okay. When Christmas break came around, the truth came out.
