Submitter's Note: I have confirmed with LA Fitness' corporate headquarters; all members are prohibited from carrying guns. So the scene of this massacre was a classic FSA "safe haven from guns", which made it a ripe target for a twisted sicko.

LA Fitness also has CNN running on their TVs by treadmills, elipticals, bikes. They have about 9 to 12 TVs in groups of 3. CNN is on 1 TV in the groups of 3. Sucks.
This can’t be right. How did a nutcase get a gun into a gun free zone? Didn’t he read the signs?
That website looks like it cleaned up it’s act since the previous owner was thrown in the clink. I hope the new owners continue the trend.
Other than carrying in your gym bag or purse, how would carry in an aerobics class?
LA Fitness’ ‘rule’ was no different than malls that proudly proclaim to GFZs. Its management attempting to pander to their stylized interpretation of their customers’ (mostly female) wishes.
FWIW, Sodini has been described, in local media coverage, as being the blueprint ‘loner’ who snaps and causes carnage like this. The picture has been painted by neighbors; co-workers; and his own words on his blog.
Umm, Who is packing heat while exercising? Maybe there could be another incident avoided if guns were legal, but there is no way on earth anything could prevent a whackjob like this pulling off this massacre. (outside of metal-detectors)

For Freepers who’ve never been to a fitness center, nobody would ever want to be packing during a workout.
However, I’m sure some of the local cops have their service weapon in their gym bags. Judging by how close by they keep them, as they move from station to station. (Rather than locking gym bags in a locker)

The idea started shortly after Missouri Concealed Carry came into being some 5 + years ago as a boycott.
To me it has become a safety issue. I stay away from the "Gun Free Zones".
They are an accident waiting to happen.
In other states are there similar organizations that provide this service online?

Angel Shamaya started KeepandbearArms.com & ran it through much adversity - both personal & relating to the site. He let it go last year as he figured it was the best thing to do for the cause. He's given a lot of time, energy, passion, cash & patience to try to help the pro-gun cause.

I'm not up on all the details but it seems he was arrested for not complying with Michigan's gun registration laws. From a quick glance at that link it would seem that Michigan requires all handguns to be registered. (I will note that Michigan considers a pellet gun a firearm so if you have a pellet pistol they expect you to register it.)
David Codrea has more. Go there now & please do what ever you are able to for Shamaya. If you don't know him or of him & wonder why you should spend any effort on helping him out there's one reason why you should reconsider: that could have been you.
If you're here odds are you're pro-gun & not crazy about the idea of registration. From what I understand that was Shamaya’s only offense - not registering his arms. If it was me I'd be in the same boat - well if I were alive at that point - as I'd be damned if I registered anything with anyone.
So if you know nothing of the man's work or what he's done for us then I ask you to consider helping him as you might think about helping me should I ever wind up in his situation.

At the Golds Gym I go to they have 16 tv's on the wall and one of them in tuned to Fox News and another is tuned to CNN so I geuss they're fair and balanced.
Ah, maybe they could be sued for depriving their customers of their civil rights, the first of which is the right to life and to defend one’s life.
Why couldn’t they do this? Imagine if they tried banned the 1st Amendment!
Well, you know what they say. If you’re going to do the crime,......don’t let the vindictive ex-wife find out.
The solution is simple. Don’t go there.
Just try standing inside any store and handing out campaign literature, hold a prayer service, or give a speech for (or against) Obamacare, and you'll swiftly learn that private businesses have every right to restrict the exercise of these rights inside their place of business.
And we have every right to take our business elsewhere.
