Its been announced that were about to be treated to another rant from the documentary maker Michael Moore. Capitalism is the title of Moores follow up to Sicko and Fahrenheit 9/11, and will be featuring in competition in Septembers Venice Film Festival.
Expect no surprises (and no balance) when Moore puts the boot into the system. Its what people expect of him; his audience goes to his films not to be jolted, or even to think, but to have all their prejudices confirmed.
You could say the same about so much of Hollywoods output - or indeed what remains of our own industry. The orthodox line, taken as read, is roughly that big business is bad, governments are all corrupt, society and bad social conditions are always to blame for violent crime, the family is a hotbed of neurosis, and the only good presidents are Democrats.
Every so often though, a film comes along which goes against this grain. The lack of barbecue weather and some terrible dental work has meant that Ive been spent much of the past week with my DVD collection, and repeat viewings of a couple of favourites have reassured me that sometimes, films do get made which are, if not conservative, then certainly not full of the usual liberal-left brain-deadedness.

I think people would tolerate this idot when Bush was President and the economy was robust. I doubt anyone tolerates him now that the Democrats are in control and the economy is in the tank
Well, your Friendly Neighborhood Capitalists have certainly given him some material to work with over the last few years. I can imagine Fuld will be a star. Betcha Alan Greenspan’s admission will be on screen.
parsy.
This will be an even bigger DUD than “Sicko” was.
I wish I could slap him across the face with a stiff pair of leather gloves.
Moore makes a movie about the evils of capitalism. The same capitalism that keeps him ass deep in Hostess ding dongs....
“Capitalism”, huh?
I hope FatMikey turns his camera on some of America’s biggest and richest capitalists - the CEO and Board of Directors of....
Coca Cola.
I wonder what Ayn Rand would have to say about it if she were still alive.
How much you want to bet that the people who see and love this film won’t even know squat about what capitalism really is?
I’m sure Mr. Moore will be turning all the profits he hopes to make off this film to the Treasury general fund to benefit The People instead of being a bloodsucking Hollywood oppressor and keeping it to, say, fund new films. Because the latter...would be capitalism.
