Proof that you can outlive your reputation. He left the air so long ago that there are many people who ether never saw him, or only saw the twilight of his career. I think he is forever linked to an era of “3 networks and only 3 networks” and this position of “oracle” of network news is now understood to be a function, not of his greatness as a journalist/tv anchorman, but of the paucity of choices in news media back “in the day”. I’m saying his reputation was undeserved - a function of being the first to do something for which there were no standards.
