If there is a lesson to be learned from Sarah Palin's withdrawal from public office, it is this: if you want to take out a female politician, you go after her children.
There is likely no one and single reason for Palin's withdrawal, and she cited a bunch of them in her disorganized "you won't have Sarah Palin to kick around anymore" speech. But two things seem to explain most logically Palin's behavior: she was ground down by the unusually vitriolic campaign waged against her, and the aspect of that campaign that did the most damage was the attacks on her children.

If votes count for anything....
this should be a sidebar highlight!
Palin/Romney 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was more of a very well thought out kick-butt and take names speech. Nothing disorganized about it. Everyone talks about the speech, but has anyone actually listened to it all or read it?
Blog post of the day, I'd say.
How about Palin/Cheney 2012 ?
...Liz Cheney that is.
What kind of plaform would THAT be? The Capitalist/Socialist ticket? The Conservative/Liberal ticket?
It makes no sense. Romney is the type of candidate Democrats a few decades ago would have run.
The mission was to keep the first female candidate elected to high office, from being a Republican. Just like the Democrats did to Emilio Garza (proposed first latino Supreme) any means necessary would be used to stop her permanently.
“Palin/Romney 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!”
That would be like baking a cake and frosting it with crap!
Nobody is going to buy that!
It would actually be 3 things.
#3. Lack of support from Republican Establishment types and self-anointed intellectuals.

I saw it on Fox as it happened. My opinion is that the long speech was both...well thought out at times and clearly disjointed at other times.
The weak point for me...she says that lame duck governors waste the state's money by filling their schedules with vacation-like junkets and that she is leaving early to spare the people of Alaska that waste. Come on. Stay on the job and don't take the trips...there's no law that says you have to.

I think you are premature in your notion that a conspiracy was afoot to keep Gov Palin out of the veep mansion.
Did not the GOP seal its own fate with the nomination of McCain? Could he or would he have won with anyone less than the reincarnation of Reagan?
Palin/Romney 2012 would be like Reagan/Bush in 1982. The single mistake by Reagan of choosing Bush has, after 3 Bush family presidential terms, undone his whole “revolution.”
The GOP base got screwed by RINO McCain in 2008. Why would we want another RINO like Romney at the top of the ticket in 2012?
Palin/Barbour 2012!!!
If the author weren’t playing the “concern troll” role here, I might be interested in his opinion. He states as fact a number of things that are either arguable or simply factually incorrect while feigning concern for women, the GOP and the future of conservatism.
Come on. She was harrassed for doing governor business, promoting state interests and defending herself.
Her point that continuing that "business" was a waste personally and for the state is valid.
If the political parties were reversed the harpies on The View would still be shredding the couch with their teeth.
We probably know that McCain was doomed, but they got blind-sided. A grassroots movement that builds behind her presidency for the next five years is their biggest nightmare. They're trying to take her out permanently now.
No, her point (one of them) was that lame-duck governors waste state dollars on junkets. My point is - so don’t take junkets, not every governor does. That was one of her reasons for quitting and it is very weak.
But what about the endless ethics complaints. It makes no sense for her to stay in office. Palin is a punching bag from both sides if she stays in office. She does a campaign trip, she is hit by liberals with ethics complain. She does not do a campaign trip, she is hit by 'republicans' saying Palin is not dedicated. Palin's reason for quitting was freedom. The freedom to fight the fight. As governor, she had her hands tied and was getting beaten up and it was not good for the people of Alaska and it was not good for her.
