This jointly written eulogy release (I have never seen AQ release a two-authored eulogy before) is also a tactical move designed, I believe, to reinvigorate movement in Mauritania, both to decrease the security pressure on their bro’s next door in the Maghreb (this is a classic Abu Musab al-Suri strategy – see his writing on revolution in Syria) but also because they smell the ‘musk’ of yesteryear and think that the death of these shaykhs might be just the kind of trigger that Mauritanian youth need to stop studying and to start fighting."
