Here is video of the final inning of the no-hitter Jonathan Sanchez threw for the San Francisco Giants last night against the San Diego Padres. Sanchez came into the game with a 2-8 record and a ERA over 5.00, but he nearly threw a perfect game. In fact, he did not allow a hitter to reach base. The only man who reached did so on an error by 3rd Baseman Juan Uribe. Below is a report on the no-hitter. . . . . (Watch Video)

Sigh, my San Diego Padres. New motto: Helping pitchers get no-hitters since 1969.

He struck out the last batter looking on a pitch that was a foot outside and 6 inches high. The umpire totally bailed him out. I think back to 1972 when umpire Bruce Froemming (who thought the game was all about him), on a full count with two outs in the ninth, called ball four on a pitch clearly on the corner, ruining Milt Pappas’ perfect game.

Old jazz hands Uribe is lucky he’s hitting .300. That should insulate him from being booed to death.
