I’m someone who tends to appreciate all sorts of old-world romanticism... but I’ve always found that whole ‘running with the bulls’ thing to be mind-bogglingly stupid.

I don’t get the Spaniards and their penchant for animal cruelty - the bullfighting is bad enough, but there is a festival where they throw a goat from a five story building, cheer, and if it survives they toss it again. I’m a carnivore but this crap makes me root for the bulls.

Yes, I’m obnoxious as all get out. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, I LOVE reading about the buffoons being gored to either paralysis or death. It really works for me.

Two of my closest friends are from Spain, they can’t seem to explain the appeal of this themselves. That said, I’d much rather go to the giant tomato fight, even though I think it’s a crying shame to waste all those tomatoes, think of all the marinara sauce you could make....
