Is Secretary of State Clinton on the way out?
Island Turtle ^ | July 2, 2009 | Corky Boyd

There appears to be a rift developing between President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton. It was bound to happen sometime. Her job has been diluted by four special envoys that report, not to her, but directly to the President. Her cabinet position was a buyoff to gain the Clintons’ support after Obama’s nomination. I reported on a secret meeting between Bill Clinton and candidate Obama in Harlem on 9/11, where no doubt a deal was made.. But deals between political enemies are short lived, especially when their purpose has been served. Obama got what he wanted, her heavily female loyalists and the presidency. She is excess baggage now -- especially when she challenges him on a critical issue.

The first sign of friction came in a leak to the Washington Times yesterday that she and Obama had been on different wavelengths on the Iran crackdown. It goes on to say when Obama finally toughened his position, he blindsided

I’m betting she’ll be out long before the end of his first (and only!) term. I give it 2 years.

It’s part gut feeling and part sorting through bits of news and part believing that the clinton machine is able to ferret out anything and use it to their advantage....

also, I read this in March and it has the ring of truth:

It would be absolutely no surprise to me for Hillary to quietly resign before one year is up “for other pursuits”.

Same thing for Bob Gates as SecDef.

Both of these people served the Obamachine and are not too far from the end of their usefulness.

Under the bus they go! Hillary, especially.

I know. It is come to the point where I see Hill as the only voice of sanity in that operation.

I always thought Hill was a military hawk at heart. And I cannot imagine why she took that job. Did she know he was going to appoint all those assistants reporting to him. The last few pics I see of her, she looks so depressed.

I also wonder about the broken bone. Does she have something more going on,,broken bones sometimes reveal other health problems. Like metastatic lesions and. Is Hill sick?

and you know what they say about a Clinton scorned...this is about to get good!

Being purely hypothetical....Hill leaves State, Bill calls in some favors to put the Birth Certificate out there, Bam gets run from office, Slow Joe becomes POTUS and selects Hill as his Veep, then his health take a sudden turn for the worse. Any less plausible than what we’ve already lived through?

UN Secretary General position can’t be held by one of the Permanent Member countries, of which US is one.

And obama can’t appoint 24 czars to upsurp the sec. of his cabinets either. Don’t you realize we are now living in a parallel universe? Zero can get anything he wants done, who’s to stop him and his chicago acorn thugs? Don’t invest any ideals in the U.N. being honorable, look who sits on the security council now? terrorist countries that’s who. Lord help us all!

There was a short lived story sometime ago where Bill was bi%ching that he could not make $$$ overseas because Hillary was SoS. That may be more to play than anything. Still does not explain why she too the job.

Before the election, actually at the time of the debates, I posted a long reply thinking about the state of the party and the steps should be taken to redeem our fortunes after the election. This prediction appeared at the foot of the reply:

The bright side, if it can be counted as such, is that all will not be well on the left. Hillary will exercise her ambitions, inevitably at the expense of Obama. Every special-interest group will be calling in their IOUs. In the long run, an extreme leftist coalition cannot hold together unless it moves beyond our constitutional government toward some sort of repressive regime. I look for Stalin versus Trotsky wars on the left with the potential for these internicine battles to spin out of control.

Who knows where that will lead? Much depends on whether the left stays within the model of a representative democracy or seeks to extend its power with subversion of our historical liberties.

Assuming that Hillary and Obama are really on the outs-and I think that is the most plausible explanation-the real question is why should that be so now? As I reread my reply quoted above I think I got it wrong, I think that Hillary is the proactive one in rupturing the relationship but she is not acting aggressively, I think she is acting defensively. I think she senses that the Obama foreign policy is essentially anti-American and she is acting to protect her reputation and withdrawing from the relationship which she fears might taint her. This is something different from my prediction quoted above.

The hypothesis that Hillary is breaking away from Obama because he is too radical is, I know, a broad leap. One must not forget that Hillary after college was as much a Saul Olinsky acolyte as was Obama. Yet I think that the Clintons were genuinely motivated to secure a historic deal between the Palestinians and Israel which they nearly struck at the end of Clinton's ministration. In other words, I think that Hillary is an obnoxious liberal whom I have always referred to as "Bitch Clinton" but she is nevertheless a patriotic American, at least within her own lights. I think she senses the Barack Obama is not a patriotic American, at least by a definition with which she can coexist.

Time will tell.

Thanks for the insightful analysis.... it certainly appears that the Clintons are working hard at putting some distance between themselves and obama....

My general understanding is that when Hillary accepted the Sec of State position she did not fully anticipate obama’s moves to place all of the world's hot-spots into the hands of so called special envoys reporting directly to him - thus leaving her as more of a figure-head on major foreign policy issues - or am I somehow mistaken?

Good point.

I had entirely forgotten about that possibility. It is more evidence of Obama's Imperial presidency and it would not be at all surprising if Hillary considers that there is only room in the world of foreign affairs for one Czar.

Every president since Franklin Roosevelt has tried to figure out how to get around the State Department but in Obama's case, I think this is simply more of the same that we have seen in domestic politics in which Obama seeks to immunize his administration from Congressional oversight and influence. Here he succeeds in isolating the State Department and neutralizing Congress.

One can assign benign motivations for the appointment of this Czar as well as for the others. One can assign benign motivations for virtually all of Obama's policies when they are considered only in isolated detail. Yet there is not a single policy made by Obama which is incongruent with a Marxist/radical ambition. Considered cumulatively, the pattern is truly frightening.

Obama has placed himself so that he can effect a foreign policy coup with virtually no check or balance to any radical moves he might make. We see that possibility today in the Honduras affair. Any self-respecting statesman could not in good conscience, or even out of personal considerations of one's own reputation, continue in an office where one bears responsibility without authority. While I certainly do not accuse Hillary of statesmanship, she is at least a politician clever enough not to let herself be used as a foil for Obama's hidden or radical designs.

I still think she has seen something which should frighten us all.
