FoxNews isn’t much different.
This moring, the Fox&Friends trivia question is about an actress/singer born in 1986 who is a favorite with the tabloids.
I am not defending ABC, I don’t watch TV news. Was it only 1 minute because they didn’t have a lot info or was it because they didn’t care?
If they cared they could have had a half-hour special on it. Their priorities are *always* shown by how many minutes a subject gets.

The media, with a story like MJ’s death, is like a bunch of tots playing soccer - they all crowd around the ball.
When I was reporting on the air - spent a lot of time on the death of John Lennon. But I also invested a lot of time in the killing of Anwar Sadat and the shooting of Pope John Paul II.
The MJ craze will pass after time, just like all other big stories.
But your point is well taken. We’re still at war, and the media should spend more time on the fight in the middle east and southwestern Asia. My God, the people who are taking the fight to the enemy are protecting us! And ABC, too!

Another way to put it would be, if you wanted a *guaranteed methodology* for putting the MSM news *out of business* — then devoting a half hour to the soldier and one minute to Michael Jackson would do it... :-)

Basically I agree with you as things stand now. But there are 24 hours in a day and at least 150 channels and it seems like there may, in the future, be a further division between "hard" news and "soft" news programming. In some ways there is now, with TMZ type shows (TMZ broke the MJ heart attack story BTW) and Fox News Special Report type shows.
It's just that there's too much bleed-over into hard news IMO and, as you say, that's the state of the market today. New financial models may change that especially if news becomes more paid-for on the internet rather than being advertising based.
Those were definitely Fox's worst days. Hopefully they won't repeat it with dear departed Jacko.
Boycott this network and the advertisers. Do it now.

Wash, rinse, repeat. While these news stories are trivial to you and I, imagine what a woman who is home during the day goes through watching 28 straight days of “Trouble in the Middle East”.
Now she can watch it on CNN, MSNBC the Alphabets or Fox. Where would you prefer she watch it, especially since we are talking about Neilsons, Arbitrons, etc? As long as the MSM is showing MJ, FOx will show MJ.
I’ll never watch ABC again for anything. Anyone know how to lock out a channel on a Direct TV receiver?
The sad thing is that ABC is giving the public what they want.
