We believe that the coup was not legal, the president told reporters on Monday, and that President Zelaya remains the president of Honduras, the democratically elected president there.
The administration has not yet officially designated the overthrow of Zelaya as a coup detat, but Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, We do think that this has evolved into a coup. The official view of the transition makes a difference to the amount of U.S. aid that can be sent to Honduras.
Regardless of the official position, however, the president apparently enjoyed saying the word coup, perhaps to show off his knowledge of French after chastizing the American people during the campaign over our lack of foreign language experience.
It would be a terrible precedent, Obama said after his meeting with Columbian president Alvaro Uribe Monday, if we start moving backwards into the era in which we are seeing military coups as a means of political transition, rather than democratic elections.
The problem with Obamas statements is that this is not a military coup. The military was called in to remove Zelaya, but at the request of the countrys judiciary. Zelaya, like his Communist neighbors Hugo Chavez and the Castro brothers, was making attempts to alter the constitution of Honduras to make his re-election possible. In Honduras, the president can only serve one four-year term, a policy which makes this American swoon with envy.

Is our President entirely sane?
Yeah, terrible precident of kicking out an attempted dictator?
What, is Obama planning on hanging on after he loses the election?
Sure he is... He's just a complete and utter idiot.
On the bright side, with his trusty teleprompter, he’s a very well spoken idiot.
No. I am not even sure if he is human!
What concerns me, is this type of rhetoric will eventually lead to a Haiti-like operation. Clinton used to speak like theis about Aristide.
I think you got it. He plans on a third term and doesn’t want our Generals and Supreme Court using the Honduran action against a rogue President as a “precedent”.
“at the request of the countrys judiciary”
I wonder how much Stimu/Porkulus money this ‘reinstatement’ is going to cost.
He's afraid of hanging, period.

Zelaya’s actions were the only coup attempt and they were constitutionally challenged and then put down by constitutional processes as mandated.
A constitutional successor, not a military appointee, was put in his place. That successor was of Zelaya’s party and he says that Zelaya deserves arrest and a twenty year sentence if the constitutional expulsion in exile is thwarted by his return.
Obama is always against a contitutional republic’s protective process and, instead, supports the socialistic mantra of One-man, One Vote leaving out the special secret that it is for just One-Time, i.e. until dictatorship in the socialist agenda proceeds.
“Is our President entirely sane?”
He’s got great company... castro, chavez and ahmedinajad.
With the support of the US Communist party. No kidding!
Yeah, Bambi. Take a good long look. So are we...
It also gives cover to FARC operatives that are good friends with Chavez and have bases in Nicaragua. Also moral encouragement to communist sympathizers within Honduras. If this turns bloody 0bama will have that blood on his hands.
An impeachment would be a terrible precedent for Obama, but a welcomed precedent for the rest of us.
