Imagine if W refused to leave

Imagine this scenario. President Bush in 2008 is about to be termed-out of the presidency. He doesn't want to leave. He openly declares that he is holding a special election to retain him in office. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is called into the Oval Office and told to publicly support the special election. Sensing the Executive branch is trying to take over the government - tossing the Constitution in the process - balks. Bush fires him. The Supreme Court of the United States declares the firing illegal. Bush moves forward with his plans for the special election. The Congress, military, and SCOTUS all confer. The day of the special election comes. The military puts Bush on a plane to Canada, and the Congress, in complete bipartisanship, appoint an interim president. Sound outrageous? It is exactly what happened in Honduras. And Obama has publicly backed the usurping now-exiled president.

Wait until 2016...you won’t have to imagine it...

Sorry, but it’s easier for me to imagine Obama doing thatin 2012!

I was gonna say, Obama’s probably pissed that his idea got stolen.

Yep. Maybe even 2012 if he thinks he might lose re-election.

Get ready.

Funny thing, I was talking about the situation in Honduras today with a co-worker and used the exact analogy. I said, “I wonder how Obama would have reacted if Bush tried this.” Then I followed up with, “Maybe he’s trying to be consistent on this position to support future endeavors.”

Yikes!

There are some differences.

For one, Bush has a lot more support. Most of us would expect him to obey the rule of law but some would support him staying in office.

I’ve been saying all along that the democrats don’t intend to face another election and that Obama’s “followers” aren’t going to let him leave office without violence.

If national referendums are such a good idea for Honduras as Obama seems to think, why not here ?

A national referendum on gay marriage, capital punishment, late term abortion, parental notification...Oh, but that would be unconstitutional.

Obama would have to be wildly popular to even have a chance of pulling that off.

It’s not gonna happen.

It has to be presented as Bush doing it, for libs to understand. Of course, even then, they won’t really understand, they’ll just be against it, because it’s Bush, they would still be for it, with Obama.

Obama would have to be wildly popular to even have a chance of pulling that off.

He would also need the support of the military, and a disarmed populace, but I'm sure he's still dreaming about how he might pull it off.

Hmm do you think our Supreme Court has the capacity to interpret our constitution and act on it like they did in Honduras? Or would they have empathy for Zero when he stages his bid.

Here’s a scenario for you: 22nd Amendment is repealed, and Bill Clinton and George Bush both file to run against Obama. Obama might not like the result of that...

Why not a national referendum on whether Obama should remain President, after we now finally know which policies he actually supports?
