Break Through on Cap and Trade

There's been a major break through on cap and trade.

They still call it the Waxman-Markey climate-energy bill — but it’s Nancy’s bill now.

By saying she would pass the massive — and massively controversial — cap-and-trade bill by the start of the July 4 recess, the House speaker took a big gamble, setting herself up for a daring political victory or the biggest defeat of her six months as President Barack Obama’s legislative ramrod.

And on Monday, Pelosi doubled down, scheduling a Friday vote on the legislation, overriding the objections of farm staters and moderates who fear the vote could explode into a potentially lethal election issue next year as Republicans cast it as a one huge tax hike

It would have been far more honest to have this as a direct carbon tax. That way it could be set up as a separate line item on each gas and electric bill and on every gas pump. Instead the Dems wanted a Rube Goldberg machine to hide the fact that this is just another way of squeezing a greater proportion of everone's labor to be turned over to the government.

The way it’s going now there won’t be much left of it anyway.

Even Dingell says it’s a tax. Opponents should be playing that clip all day long, but of course they won’t.

I called my Congresscritter this morning. Of course it's Bart Gordon so I couldnt even get a straight answer from the intern. I think I know how Gordon will vote.

I also called Marsha Blackburn even though I'm not in her district.

Since the Democrats don’t have to pay for anything, they can simply keep promising billions of dollars to different states until they get enough votes to pass the bill.

They have already exempted (by means of giving billions of dollars worth of “cap” exemptions) many state’s businesses, and I understand they just did the same for farmers, as well as moving the definition of what is polluting for farmers to a different agency that will let the farmers off the hook.

With the farmers thus exempted, the farm politicians can vote for the bill.

In the end, only companies in republican areas will be taxed. Most of what congress is doing now is targeting republicans.
