It started as a rumor told by insiders to media. Insiders believed that all the revelations were making the ACORN brand so toxic that they may have to change it. Then, ACORN Intl. changed its name and they thought that was an indication they were. Of course ACORN Intl. is NOT ACORN. Yet, for whatever reason, that's how it was reported by Washington Examiner columnist Kevin Mooney. Moonedy has been on television speaking about ACORN.

They don’t like labels but they sure do like to label others.
Remember the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy - Right Wing Nuts, Right Wing Nazis - The White Racist and the White Racist Nazis - etc?
But when we use their own descriptions (such as - Liberal or ACORN) and repeat their very own words back to them (in context) and show how they are not living up to the freedoms and rights we should have, they have to change their names.
The only thing is to put that fact out there and just show that regardless of the name change, the characters remain EXACTLY the same.
THERE IS NO NAME CHANGE.

Why do you come to FR to defend ACORN?
I’m not defending ACORN. If you read the piece there is plenty to attack ACORN on, but if you smear them, then nothing you say matters. You can’t make claims against them that aren’t true. There is plenty there that is true. Tell that story as it is.
The problem is that the conservative media unwittingly smeared them because most of them are too lazy to investigate a story properly.
