A very large windmill MIGHT produce 100 kw of electricity on a very windy day. You would need 10,000 of them to replace ONE coal fired power plant (produces about 1000 MW = 1,000,000 kw), if the wind blew hard every day and every night. Since it doesn’t, you would probably need more like 50,000 to replace just one coal fired power plant.

The cost per kw of generating power for a wind turbine is probably in the order of $5000 to $10,000 per kw (this will include materials, installation, electronics to convert the wind turbines power to 60 Hz, switchgear, transformers, electrical cable, etc).

And since the cost of energy will go sky high, the wind turbine manufacturers will go to China and India to have them made.

A typical wind turbine will cost about $500,000 to $1,000,000. Multiply that by 50,000 and you have $25 to $50 BILLION to replace just ONE coal fired power plant.

In comparison, a coal fired power plant cost about $1000/kw to build. A 1000 MW plant will cost about $1 billion. A nuclear power plant costs more, but your fuel costs are much less over the long run.

Some idiots are saying that cap and trade will create “40,000 jobs in Tennessee.” I am betting that we lose 10 million more jobs in the US while the president touts that the cap and trade creates 100,000.

Ya, they talk sometimes about creating clean green jobs, but, they never talk about the jobs that will be lost. There will be a net loss of jobs, but that’s an unmentionable, because Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, Obama, etc. have a planet to save.
