It is my understanding from a college lit. course that Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird) pretty much wrote the book; in the recent movies on Capote she certainly plays a prominent role. IMHO.

A friend of mine's father was on the Kansas Highway Patrol and escorted Hickock to the gallows. Hickock believed he could actually beat the hangman by surviving the drop. He had spent his extended prison confinement time doing strenuous exercises to strengthen his neck muscles.
Hickock did survive the drop but didn't realize the sentence read "Hang by the neck till you are dead." Hickock hanged for over half an hour and died from strangulation, not a broken neck.

I read In Cold Blood thirty years ago in the 9th grade and was smart enough to read between the lines and figure out the gay angle. Anyone who can not see the gay theme in the book needs to back to reading “Dick and Jane.”

I seem to remember that one of the main angles of the crime was it was rare for murderers like this to team up. Usually it's just one person who commits those acts. This solves the “mystery.”

Regardless of the veracity of this piece, you’re simply trolling for hits at your site. Referring to yourself in the third person makes it deceptive as well.

Her character, Dill, in To Kill A Mockingbird, was based on Capote.

Here is a
story involving homosexuality, religion, politics, drug abuse, and murder. Will it take as long to see the "truth" published about THIS case - how many years from now?

I don’t think Capote needed Lee to write the book for him, he was talented enough himself. Lee & Capote were friends from childhood, that’s why she shows up in the recent movies. A lady I worked with lived in the same area in Alabama as Harper Lee. When they were both adults, Capote would come and visit Lee on occassion, staying overnight at her house. This was considered scandalous at the time, the local residents being blissfully unaware that Capote was gay.

Interesting piece.
Thanks.

Now that’s a interesting post that clears up some history.
I wondered about the motive when watching the film and re-watching it more recently - I didn’t read the book. The film completely leaves out the homo part.

Lee & Capote were friends from childhood, thats why she shows up in the recent movies. I do not think she showed up in the movie because they were childhood friends, she showed up in the movie because she worked with him on the book.

First I’ve heard of that one?

While I am not a defender of Larry Sinclair (I personally think he is a bit of a scum), the more I hear about the 1999 wild limo ride, the more believable the story. With an unsolved murder of the choir director, would the Chicago PD release the cell phone records that may link Larry, Barry, and Donald? It is probably hiding behind an FOIA shield as well as the rabid defenders of Barry who have spent nearly a $1M hiding birth and college records. All this data swept from sight!
