If the mainstream media had been around in France 220 years ago, Marie Antoinette would be known as the world's first, and greatest, weight-loss specialist for the lower class. She was a fun gal.
Seriously. I don't recall these stories back when the MSM was attempting to inflate Bush's unemployment statistics. Do you?
LA Times: For the 'funemployed,' unemployment is welcome
Michael Van Gorkom was laid off by Yahoo in late April. He didn't panic. He didn't rush off to a therapist. Instead, the 33-year-old Santa Monica resident discovered that being jobless "kind of settled nicely."
Week one: "I thought, 'OK . . . I need to send out resumes, send some e-mails, need to do networking."
Week two: "A little less."
Every week since: "I'm going to go to the beach and enjoy some margaritas."
What most people would call unemployment, Van Gorkom embraced as "funemployment."
While millions of Americans struggle to find work as they face foreclosures and bankruptcy, others have found a silver lining in the economic meltdown. These happily jobless tend to be single and in their 20s and 30s. Some were laid off. Some quit voluntarily, lured by generous buyouts.
Buoyed by severance, savings, unemployment checks or their parents, the funemployed do not spend their days poring over job listings.
And President Obama doesn't lie a lot, he's just very "funtrustworthy." In the age of Obama, we glorify living off the government and/or your parents. Wait, this is just breaking from the LA Times...

When a Repub is in the White House, 5% unemployment is a recession. When a Democrat is in the White House, 10% unemployment is a chance to stop and smell the roses.
I am unemployed, but certainly not funemployed. Nice to know there are people who can afford to go to the beach while ‘funemployed’, but I am barely eeking by while my husband is calling McDonald’s every day to see if they are hiring.
Reality translation: "I am now a broke alcoholic and can't find work in the Obama economy."
How do you go to the beach and drink margaritas when unemployed?
Is he living with his parents? Putting bills on his credit card and racking up huge debts?
The Boston Globe ran a similar story a couple months back. Interviewed some laid off lefty sad sacks and framed it as family bonding.
Unemployment under Obama = Fun
Unemployment under Bush = Bad
As someone onse said, at least in the Soviet Union everyone KNEW the press was hopelessly biased.
a necessary idea for Obama to infect the sheeple with, as in Socialist economies like France unemployment never falls below 10%
Obamessiah's policies are a total failure.
When unemployment is fun, unemployment pay needs to be cut.
No doubt.
...and a lot in the “parents support” category, I bet...:^)
When I was unemployed about 3 1/2 years ago, I was out of work for nearly 4 months. Unemployment payed me $200 a week ($150 after taxes)... But I was paying nearly $450 a month for COBRA. Not exactly enough to party at the beach. And it wasn't any fun at all.

Well, the funemployed will find me completely funsympathetic when they run out of money.
When I was unexpectedly fired from a job a number of years ago, I did panic a little bit at first. But it never even occurred to me to rush off to a therapist. If someone had suggested it, I'd have laughed in his face.
So what happened? Nothing worth yapping about really. I toughed it out for a while and then got another job.
