A guy told me the other day he has a 2 week supply of food on hand. Problem is, it's frozen dinners in his freezer. I suppose if he loses power, he'll have that 2 week supply in one day.

LOL That’s funny. I have a new blog dedicated to preparedness from a mom’s perspective. When you get a chance, would you let me know what you think? www.thesurvivalmom.com

Thanks!

Ping to post 3. Check out the link.

It looks great. I’ll have to get into it more when it’s not so late. There are some very good ideas there, especially the binder.

That's a pretty good start there, ma'am.

I like the binder idea. We've got all of our important papers in a gallon ziplock baggy in our safe, but I the binder is a neat idea.

Thanks.

You’ve got some great ideas at your site - I like the binder idea too. (You wouldn’t happen to be a flybaby, would you?) Your binder covers all the important things one might need.

Actually, his problems are that he's telling people (A) that he's got supplies and (B) where he's keeping them.

A strong scented soap and human hair can keep most deer away. Either that, or just take a pee around the area.

Hey Cookie, that is one terrific website!

I love the idea of the “bug out” binder. What a simple, yet common sense idea. I’m going to get myself and the wife started on one right away.

You’ve got a ton of other great ideas there, too.

You’ve hit on something that’s been on a lot of people’s minds in the last few months, and I think your site is going to gain in readership.

I’ve bookmarked it, and will share the link with others tonight.

I’ve been listening to Jack Spirko’s podcast for sometime now. He has a great deal of practical sound advice. The refreshing thing is that he is NOT wearing a tinfoil hat, if you know what I mean. His motto is something like: “advice for living a better life if things get tough or even if they don’t”.

I happened to read a book called “One Second After”, the story of the after-effects of an electromagnetic-pulse (EMP) attack on the United States. An EMP wipes out all electric power instantly, anything with a circuit including modern cars, and communication devices, back up generators, everything. This book and its very likely scenario terrified me and made me get serious about preparing for emergencies.

Lights out pdf book by Halifast at the frugal squirrel website is fiction written with the forums input ......good free pdf book on a emp event and real and myth facts on emp.

http://www.frugalsquirrels.com/friends_links.html

On the page above under free downloads, chapter 1-10 is first part and rest is below that.

Real good fiction read with factual survival information.

Hope it helps set aside some of your fears and gives you ideas such as older diesel engines and drive trains that lack said electronics and how to emp proof spares in storage for items you may want to keep running. It can be done with simple wrap in foil (WIF) package , in a metal grounded container etc ......

Hope it gives you some ideas.......:o)

Very good site CCC !

May I suggest a layered plan for same book.....

The book you have in your home , if not in a safe , then place in a simple fire file box that office depot / max sells for less than 40 dollars should hold that binder.

Second copy of that binder should be in a safe deposit box in a town at least 50 miles from your home. Add a USB Fob or CD copy of the book in that box .

Carry a Small 1GB USB Fob or a Mini Disc or a Business card Compact disc in your wallet or purse with a copy of the disc. Encrypt that disc with something entire family knows like Dogs name and zip code of your home so all can access if you are injured or worse........

Also consider keeping that notebook in 2 large ziplock bags or even vacuum it down with a food saver appliance for a water proof package. We keep ours in a SEAL bag that is used for waterproofing backpacking gear etc ......SEAL bags come in different sizes and colors including clear.

Hope that helps the efforts........Stay safe !
