Postponing his own lucrative summer work on the North Slope oil fields, Todd does the bulk of the childcare for now, while Bristol also hits the gym and tanning. "My dad lets me go tanning quite a bit."

Todd Palin is an iron dog racer, a crab boat fisherman and an oil field rough neck. I would suspect he could whip most of his critics on a bad day even if he were drunk and they were sober. Seasonal work in Alaska is the norm, not the exception. During the off season, people do all sorts of weird things. Even babysit their grandchildren.

Conservatives want to believe that, in general, but then invest in a family that can’t possibly make the argument in person.

Wrong. There is an ideal and then there is reality. You do not seem to know the difference. We fall short of the Glory of God. It is what we do and the decisions that we make, with the situations we find ourselves in and that we cause through our own doing, that define whether we are true to our convictions.

The Palins from all accounts are doing just that. Sarah and Todd did not abort their child, they are dealing with a family situation that they probably had some hand in right now. Sarah has been an excellent executive and Todd seems to be a good husband and father. If you are looking for the perfect family, you ain't gonna find it except in Heaven.

agreed. You are damned if you do, damned if you don’t as a conservative. If you family is “perfect”, you can’t relate with society, so how can you govern? If your family isn’t “perfect”, you get bashed because how can you govern if your family isn’t perfect? Double standard. I would rather have a political leader who, in spite of imperfections in their family, did their best to govern us well. I can totally relate to the Palins, their choices, and their family dynamic way better than anything the democrats can offer......

Have you got evidence that this is UNTRUE?

Asking someone to prove a negative. Just goes to show the intellectual horsepower (or lack thereof) of the average Palin-basher.

Diana West’s “The Death of the Grown-Up” describes America’s drift into the Twilight Zone. We might never be able to make it back to reality.

40% of the nation truly is leaning toward trailer trash.

I can't believe the Sarahlians like to hold up her and her family as paragons for the community.

So does that mean you adopt a family life that invites criticism, just because you won’t get treated fairly? That doesn’t make sense either. I believed the Palin family story when those kids said they were getting married. I’m just repeating what Anne Coulter wisely wrote in her last book—we can’t be the a nation of unwed mothers. IT DOESN’T WORK.

Conservatives are not busy bodies about people’s personal lives.

You heard it here first, folks. Let's get this message out, ASAP.

We grow stronger by examining our own convictions and testing our leaders to see if they embody those ideals. Apparently—Schlussel’s over the top rhetoric set aside for a moment—you can’t even peep criticism of Sarah Palin without being told you were dropped on the floor as a child.

Criticism is one thing. Absurdity is another. Comparing the Palins helping their daughter raise her child to a treasonous offspring hits about a nine on the stupido meter.

Your 'ideals' would have the Palins turn their back on their daughter, which in turn WOULD probably lead to her needed government assistance. In other words, you cannot even grasp your own inherent contradiction.

Like that's a surprise.

A little history lesson provided by Daniel Patrick Moynihan of all people. His own party ridiculed him for reminding America that prior to the 1960s, black children were born, primarily to intact families. That is no longer true. We’re not talking “perfect” families. We’re talking a mother AND a father. If we can’t even get that ideal down without saying “only in heaven,” we are completely cooked.

1 Corinthians 5. Read it sometime. Think about it. Our culture was based on the principle that certain sorts of activity were worthy of disfellowship and even criminal prosecution. It’s why we didn’t have “family welfare” agencies throughout most of our history.

I guess you missed that part about throwing the first stone.

Right.

Debbie S. only wishes she had a man like Todd Palin. If he ever gave her the time of day, her skirt would be off faster than you can say Deerbornistan.

Alhtough this situation is not ideal, the Palins are taking care of this within their own family-as it should be.

..and I guess you missed that part about "go and sin no more." You're arguing for Christianity-lite, not the real thing. Seriously. Read the whole Bible--not just the part that makes you feel happy in your "sin that grace may abound" church.

I’d give the award to bush2 for his 8 years of bowing to liberals and now refusing to comment on uh-bama’s communist takeover of America.

Your question doesn't make sense. Who adopted what family life? Their daughter got pregnant out of wedlock. That is the situation that they are in. They are trying to make the best of it.

Todd likes to spend time with his grandson. I don't know the particulars of Bristol's day (actual time spent caring for the child) so I am not going to say because her dad lets her go to the tanning salon she is unfit. I'm not going make that judgment because I don't have enough info like everyone who hates this family thinks they do.

All I can say is that I hope the best for this family unlike the people who hate them.
