Postponing his own lucrative summer work on the North Slope oil fields, Todd does the bulk of the childcare for now, while Bristol also hits the gym and tanning. "My dad lets me go tanning quite a bit."

Retracted it? Uh no, Levi failed to come across with the “bride price” which was a GED and a job. That was the deal, they were to finish school and then get married. As of today, only one has graduated and it wasn’t Levi. So who’s not following through? Levi reneged, not the Palins

Levi has stated publicly that he was not dumped, but the break up was mutual. He didn’t want to get married. If he did, he’d have his nose to the grindstone making money and making himself financially viable to support his wife and child. That’s what real men do.

I am fully confidant that if Levi had stayed the course and cleaved to his intended wife, rather than pursue the party life with his drug dealing mother and sister, he’d be preparing for June nuptials.

“are you anxious to shout “Pharisee” whenever someone reminds you what scripture actually says?”

Anxious? No, I don’t think I have used that term in years, and there has been no shouting here. Again, you distort (a/k/a lie) when you are shown to be wrong, sort of like a child prevaricating when caught. You have passed judgment on Bristol Palin, her family, and her entire church (not a “real” one in your estimation), with only the knowledge you have gleaned from gossip magazines and blogs. You finally referenced penitence and rejoining of communion, but left out what that would require. Why? Has People Magazine not supplied you with enough facts?

You get very defensive if somebody points out that you might be judgmental by referencing the case of the woman about to be stoned. Since you think you have the knowledge and gifts to instruct me in Scripture, please explain to me what type of judgment Jesus was condemning when he made his famous “cast the first stone” statement in John, since you think it isn’t the kind in which you are engaged. Educate me on this point. What kind of judgment was he condemning? Or, alternatively, you could accuse me of not knowing what Scripture really says, and then bring up some statistics on unwed mothers. I have a feeling you will run to the latter, your comfort zone.

I simply ask you would a “real” fellowship of believers follow Paul’s very clear discipline for the church or not? And if you answer that question directly, consider another one: would Jesus be pleased that unwed motherhood is now rampant in our country? Would Jesus be happy about children not having fathers?

I would pray that's still a possibility. It certainly seems like a happier ending--and one that would sell as an example of responsibility.

IF you take the People Magazine version of the facts, and are willing to take very serious action on it, and IF Bristol Palin’s situation is analogous to that of the man living openly, continually and proudly in his sin, and IF you know (you don’t, as you admitted) she is unrepentant, then yes, she should be out of communion. You see, it isn’t Paul’s discipline I have a problem with, it’s your willingness to recklessly impose it based on gossip. That’s why we have to be careful in choosing church leadership, so that those devoid of reason aren’t put in positions to make this sort of decision. The Gospel according to the Gossip is your problem. I notice you chose to not comment on judgment and the like. It’s quite obvious why you would want to avoid that discussion.

And yes, true to form, you ran to your comfort zone. Look into logical fallacies, and read up on the “Straw Man” argument. You use it almost as much as President Obama. Now, please point out where I said or implied Jesus would be happy about children not having fathers. You can’t, but by implying that I think that, based on nothing, you are revealed as something awfully close to a liar.

Contrary to your ill-informed statements, I have no problem justly rebuking a brother, and since we are anonymous, this is as good as private. You engage in gossip, are judgmental based on that gossip, prideful, and a busybody who is reckless in making accusations (false witness). I pray that the Spirit will one day make as much an impact on you as the Law.

I’ve tried to have a conversation with you based on scripture and fact. Fact: Bristol had a baby out of wedlock. Fact: she was a fornicator. Fact: she talked about how abstinence was unrealistic in front of a huge, public, national forum. This isn’t “gossip.” It’s a sorry reality, and Bristol, because of her mother, becomes the focal point of a debate focusing on the church’s abject failure to tend the vineyard and “occupy” until He returns. If you want to be a champion for cheap grace, go ahead, but while you’re at it—look at the millions of kids born without dads, and give yourself a big pat on the back for being so merciful.

You even admitted that you don’t know a fact that is vital to your position, but that doesn’t even slow you down. Your grasp of Scripture is tenuous and self-serving. You either don’t understand I Corinthians, or can’t distinguish between a man openly and proudly fornicating with his step-mother, from a girl who made a huge mistake.

I never came out for cheap grace, nor will I ever, just like I never claimed Jesus was happy about fatherless babies, just like on several other occasions in this thread, you lied by misrepresentation again.

Fact: she fornicated. It’s public, and you seem to extremely interested in it, to the point of reading 2nd hand gossip about the aftermath. Unless it just landed in your inbox, you sought it. Oh, I feel quite certain you can justify it to yourself.

Fact: you have no idea of her state of repentance, as you admitted, nor do you have any clue as to what consequences she has suffered. Sorry, keep your ear open for more gossip, and I am sure your enablers in the press will give you exactly what you want.

Fact: she has since made very strong statements in favor of abstinence, and about how difficult it is being a mother. I doubt you went looking for that.

Fact: Your basis for this original post is 2nd hand from a gossip rag. You can dance around it all you want, but you are clearly repeating gossip. Repent.

Fact: You are engaged in gossip, and openly and proudly sinning as a result. Repent.

Fact: You have been fundamentally dishonest in this exchange, making far fetched assumptions about all sorts of things, and misrepresenting the views of others. You misrepresent Scripture, as well as the facts of the Palin matter. You are a liar. Repent.

Fact: You presume to be better equipped to run the families and churches of others. Pride and arrogance of your variety have no place in a Christian. But hey, you know that upright and righteous person in the mirror is better than those other sinners, don’t you? Repent.

Go ahead, give yourself a big pat on the back for your (spoken) adherence to the Law. It won’t get you where you need to be. I hope someday (today) you find what will. Repent.

I think that’s all I can do for you. Reason and the Word do not penetrate you, so I can only hope and pray that the Spirit will do what he does. God bless you.

can’t distinguish between a man openly and proudly fornicating with his step-mother, from a girl who made a huge mistake.

Fact: you have purposefully failed to note that Paul went on (keep reading, brother) to elaborate other sins that warranted disfellowship. You have further lied in your accusation that I can't make that distinction. I suspect you make this false accusation because it allows you to rant and rave.

We respond to grace by showing our faith through good works. Faith without works is dead. Previous generations of the church knew that, and we didn't have 40% of our children born to single mothers. I too pray to God that you will come to appreciate the truth of scripture on that front. You certainly sound like you have passion. I pray you learn discernment as well.

you are a sick hypocrite, and show no sign of being a brother in Christ. I pray you learn humility and compassion, for you lack those qualities. I’m done with you. God help you. Go on back to trolling the internet for news about a young girl’s sex life.

Ping to a thread that illustrates why I can’t stand Debbie Schlussel, and do not commonly spot her blog entries.

My oldest son 05/03/60, second son 07/02/90. First grandson 09/07/90. I retired 04/91 and did 80-90% of baby sitting. Both mothers worked and continue as of today. And it is a luxury I enjoyed!
