I ran across an interesting Web site which lets users access data for local weather stations going back into the 19th century. I wandered about the site for a bit, pulling up charts from various places in my region, and found that some have gotten warmer, some have gotten colder, and many have stayed within the same range for a century plus.

charts from WV are interesting, because here in the Pittsburgh region we have cut back dramatically on the amounts of particulate matter, CO2 and Sulfur Dioxide over the past sixty years. You would expect to see that make a dramatic change, but in reality things appear to keep cycling just as they did before.
Interesting.
I noticed a large dampening of extremes starting about 1960, with extremes kicking back in at about year 1990 -2006.
Leading to the idea that the weather is getting whacked out in the generation that has not experienced weather extremes.
Climate changes, people should get over it. Humans are adaptable and I damn sure don’t want humans attempting to control the earth’s thermostat. We can’t even get functioning computer systems for our government employees and we want a group to attempt to control a system that is a thousand times more complex.
Some, with an understanding of Probability and Statistics, refer to such data as random.

The temperature is already 10 degrees warmer here than it was just a few hours ago, at this rate by the end of the day, it will be about 200 degrees!! WE’RE DOOMED!
The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through all kinds of things worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles; hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors; worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages... And we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet... the planet... the planet isn’t going anywhere. WE ARE! - George Carlin
Yup.
And if the atmosphere on the whole is warming, a random selection should show that, mais non?
LOL
Now, here’s my plan: put my property up for sale as “naturally air-conditioned, soon to be oceanfront.”
There is probably an improvement in acid rain deposition, because of the removal of sulfur dioxide, to the east and southeast of Pittsburgh (i.e., downwind of the prevailings); but the temperature data don’t seem to have changed.
How do you feel about government controlling most of Earth's rivers and lakes? Should we dismantle all dams and flood control structures? Very little fresh water makes it back to the sea anymore without a small group of humans deciding when and where. This control is mastery of the second half of the rain cycle. Controlling the first half of the rain cycle, which can be done by influencing cloud formation, is not that much different. If we learned how to control Earth's iris, the leftists would have to shut up about shackling civilization over traces of CO2 gas.
Who chooses the ideal temperature? How do we know present day’s climate is optimum? How do we know if the climate 400 years ago was better and best for which continent?
What happens when they guess wrong? What if they decide to redistribute the wealth by making America colder and drier, because we have the energy resources and money to extract the oil and desalinate sea water for our needs?
World temperature run by a UN based committee. Should be interesting to say the least.
Controlling climate is not in the same league of complexity with retaining water in dams and diverting run off.
There is a lot of political fighting regarding fresh water, but in the end things usually work themselves out without going to war. Climate management law is really not that far removed from water law. They are different ends of the same natural cycle.
Who has control? Democratic voting for next weekend’s weather?
Team of experts? Elected representatives? The best scientific minds?
Control will probably be much the same as water rights control today. It will probably be white male conservative engineers that own the climate control patents and have most of the jobs so initially we will be in control. Unfortunately if you are tired of whinny leftist global warmers, just wait until they start in on that.
I don’t see the scenario you are talking about ever happening other than in an alternate parallel universe.
The statists have fought so hard to gain control of our energy systems, two thirds of our oil supplies are mostly owned and refined by governments. Obama is firing CEO’s and shutting down private businesses.
I can’t see them allowing private individuals to control the weather.
It’s hard to predict the future, but politics goes in fashion cycles. We’re currently on the upswing of a leftist government bubble that will pop just like the real estate bubble did. It will be a mess, but new technology always changes the game. Taking a Luddite position is historically a bad bet.
If we’re dreaming, I’m all for space exploration and fleeing. Let them stew in their own stink. The gene pool is beyond cleaning.
Damn! The pessimism is oozing out of me to day. Sorry!
This much of an increase tells me the data is bad. There seems to be a change that took place in the 70s that needs to be investigated.
That does look like a bad data set - - too much of a discrepancy - - unless Newport Beach got an early start on global warming 30 years ago.
