Bill Kristol: Cheney vs. Obama: A Mismatch
The Weekly Standard ^ | May 21, 2009 | Bill Kristol

Posted on 05/24/2009 12:34:08 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

I've read both speeches.

Obama's is the speech of a young senator who was once a part-time law professor--platitudinous and preachy, vague and pseudo-thoughtful in an abstract kind of way. This sentence was revealing: "On the other hand, I recently opposed the release of certain photographs that were taken of detainees by U.S. personnel between 2002 and 2004." "Opposed the release"? Doesn't he mean "decided not to permit the release"? He's president. He's not just a guy participating in a debate. But he's more comfortable as a debater, not as someone who takes responsibility for decisions.

Cheney's is the speech of a grownup, of a chief executive, of a statesman. He's sober, realistic and concrete, stands up for his country and its public officials, and has an acute awareness of the consequences of the choices one makes as a public official and a willingness to take responsibility for those choices.

Obama style appears to be one of distant observer, who does not take responsibility for anything. Don’t you love it when he blame others for the deficit he voted for and signed himself

This is a lot like Dad vs. cool Uncle. Brat kids, liberals, rebel against Dad even though he’s kept them safe.

Cheney would have made the best president since Reagan, bar none.

When Bill Kristol keeps it short and sweet, he can make sense.

Go, Cheney, go!

I wonder why, even on more conservative shows like FNS, not more has been made of the fact that Bambi went on BEFORE Cheney, even though he knew when and where the speech was to be given? Talk about fear of the Dark Lord...Bambi could not even muster up the balls to rebut from a distance and instead chose to go on first, the weakest position in a debate, with a speech that was weeks in the making...a fact that was also glossed over. Most discussions make it sound as if Cheney was rebutting Obama...the duplicitous dinasaur media in particular, kept referring to CHENEY’s speech as a rebuttal, when it fact, Bambi’s was a PREBUTTAL...

There’s probably a joke about Bambi PREBUTTALS but I don’t think I want to...ahh...go there...

When Cheney talks, people listen. When Obama talks, people look for the teleprompter.

The empty suit has met two men, Cheney and Netanyahu, and was found outclassed and clueless.

This pic of Cheney always reminds me of the Exorcist.

Cheney the Exorcist... Obie the devil himself.
