The Provocateur ^ | 05/14/2009 | Mike Volpe

Last night on the Factor, O'Reilly dedicated both his talking points and his first segment to the issue of Alinsky tactics in both the media and potentially even in the White House. O'Reilly dedicated both segments mostly to rule number 5:

Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counteract ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.

I disagree. Its actually very easy to counteract ridicule by simply ignoring it. In turn it causes the assailant to become angry.

I watched the show last night and was glad to see him bring attention to Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” and Alinsky tactics in the MSM.

that’s when it’s done face to face. How about someone gets in front of millions and ridicules you to the audience?

You ignore it. Kinda like Rush Limbaugh ignored Wanda Sykes.

It only hurts you if you allow it to.

Didn’t Harry Truman say “I tell the truth and they think it’s hell”?

Wanda Sykes

I confess to never having heard this name before a week ago. I know she was an act at this Correspondents' Dinner, but that's it. I'm glad that Rush is content to let her name slide back into obscurity.

maybe, however, that’s one person. What about the media all at once ridiculing Bush for being a buffoon. He also ignored it but a caricature was created.

This post is well worth a bump. Bill is bringing Alinsky to a wider audience than our conservative ghettos.

Go Bill!

That works on a personal level. Jesus told us to bear insults, after all (turn the other cheek).

But as I've gotten older, I have found that people fear few things more than a public brow-beating, nevermind public ridicule. Like dead bodies, many people float with the current. The best example of this is the tactic used to repeal sodomy laws. These laws were reversed because people feared being called "homophobes," not because homosexuals won the argument.
