This issue is a waste of time. FactCheck.org, funded by the Annenberg Center (as in appointee-of-Nixon-and-friend-of-Reagan Walter Annenberg), has thoroughly debunked every angle of this story; their full report is here, including several high-resolution photographs of (yes, the short form of) Obama's birth certificate. They also point out that there was a birth announcement in the local newspaper six days after he was born. Do you really believe that there was a conspiracy in place in 1961 to make it appear as though Obama was born in Hawaii that involved placing a birth announcement in the newspaper?

Obama was born in Hawaii. For a while it looked possible that this wasn't the case, and it was worth close and careful investigation. That investigation has been done. Some of you ask, "why won't Obama produce his birth certificate, if it will make this whole thing go away?" It occurs to me that maybe it's in his best interest not to. Sure, maybe he was secretly born in Kenya, but a vast conspiracy of people who wanted him to become President 47 years later placed a birth announcement in the newspaper, and then conspired with Hawaiian record-keeping agencies, hitherto non-partisan, to risk their quiet, bookish careers to lie about the records they have on file.

But maybe it's in Obama's best interest, given that most people have accepted the overwhelming evidence that he was born in the United States, to let a sliver of his most vociferous opponents waste their time chasing their own tails while looking rather silly to the rest of the country. Maybe he'd rather you were spending any time, even five minutes a day, pursuing an absolute dead end instead of criticizing his budget, or his homeland security policies, or his immigration stances, or his health care plan. If he provided his birth certificate, that waste of your time would go away, and you'd spend more time mounting arguments about things Obama actually cares about. Maybe, just maybe, you're being used by this issue. If there's any conspiracy here, that's the one I'd believe first.

there was a birth announcement in the local newspaper six days after he was born.

That is not prima facia evidence of the location of his birth. That said,

I don't think it's a waste of a few people's time and efforts to chase this down. I'm perfectly willing to lean back and watch how it all develops. If nothing comes of it, so what? These few intrepid souls have already been branded as kooks by the media.

What?

Factcheck is discredited.

Do you subscribe to the same approach regarding his non-release of all his college, most of his medical, selective service and passport records?

Just what will comprise the Obama presidential library one wonders, since he has covered his history with opacity, numerous akas and undisclosed biographical information?

Remember Obama told us in Dreams of My Father that he used his “birth certificate” as a bookmark, kept it close at hand as cherished.

Surely such a well-worn and tattered momento shares no resemblance to the freshly “minted” ( read photoshopped) COLB offered up on factcheck, do you think?

A lot of people contrive US citizenship for their children in order that they may gain the advantages of such citizenship. Mexican anchor babies are one example. A mom having a kid in Kenya would plausibly fake a US birth for her child too, given the chance.

I don’t think it is to Obama’s advantage to keep this going.

Conservatives are not “chacing their tails” on it so much that they are ignoring the other problems of dear leader. It just chips away at his credibility - and according to you - for no reason.

BTW, Annenberg Center was also a funder of Obama’s community activism with Bill Ayers to “immprove” education in Chicago. Obama lies; they swear to it.

If not for that, I might have some interest in this, but that issue fact (?) alone puts it to bed for me.

Heck if it turns out there was a conspiracy deep enough to put that together we are screwed anyway.

It would not take a "vast conspiracy", just his mother or grandmother filing an unattended birth certificate. That would generate the announcement in the papers(plural) and produce the exact same "Certification" that was posted. The reason they would do that would be to make him a citizen, not so he could become President 47 years later. They'd need to do that because at the time of his birth, his mother was not eligible to pass on citizenship, if he was born outside the country to a foreign national father, not having lived in the US for a sufficient number of years (5) after her 14th birthday, since she was not yet 19.

You present a very good argument for the deception that Obama may be attempting allowing this little matter of his eligibility to continue, providing time for him to pass legislation truly damaging to society and the country, and our political system. It's true that some are looking at his right hand moving (or more accurately, his lips moving) and missing what he does with his left; that implies conspiracy....on the part of Obama and his handlers.

There wasn't a conspiracy in Honolulu in 1961 to produce a CoLB for young Barry so he could be president. His maternal grandmother faced facts when her wayward daughter came home with a child in tow and used the existing laws and her own management and manipulation abilities to secure an identity and citizenship for the kid. (I have no knowledge that can prove or disprove Obama's place of birth and neither does he. It could be anywhere since his grandmother secured for him a 'Straggler's birth certificate).

The Birth Certificate issue has nothing to do with conspiracy. However, the CoLB published was phony. His autobiographies were fiction and his education, travel, Selective Service number, changes in citizenship missing or undisclosed. These are the minutia in this politician's resume that suggest fraud.

What Obama faces if discovery is allowed in any of the court cases challenging his eligibility (discovery prior to any indictment or trial....look it up) is criminal fraud, mail fraud, FEC violations and probably a list of RICO violations longer than your arm.

I think it ridiculous that Obama's legal defense argues before the courts that Discovery would be 'embarassing'. Think that over.

Since when do someone with a Phd in Philosphy and someone with an M.A. in English Lit qualify as document examiners? Also did you not read the stories behind the “birth announcements” which appeared in the Sunday, August 13, 1961 “Honolulu Advertiser” and the Wednesday, August 16, 1961 edition of “The Star Bulletin” list an address which was not related to either the Dunham family OR to Obama Sr? You must have missed both of those stories when they appeared, the same way you missed the testimony of the neighbor of the listed birth announcement home who swore that there had never been a young white woman and colored baby ever live at that home at any time. The neighbor had lived there since before 1960.

Citing FactCheck.org is an automatic credibility disqualifier. I don’t believe anything that FactCheck.org or Snopes says, especially if it has a political angle to it. Those are all Democrats running those sites, just like it is all Democrats working in the News and Media industries.

A waste of time because factcheck.org, funded by the same people that funded domestic terrorist bomber Bill Ayers and "some guy in the neighborhood" that he just happened to share an office with, says so?
